The X Factor panel this year will see the returns of Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell at the expense of Nicole Scherzinger, according to the latest rumours today.
Scherzinger, who has arguably been the most popular judge since she joined in 2012, is allegedly a back-up as Cowell prepares to reinstate Cole and Louis Walsh, and enlist Rita Ora.
The Pussycat Dolls star had hinted prior to the 2013 final that she would be taking 2014 to focus heavily on her music career, though speculation that she could sign up for a third year on the show has been bubbling over recent weeks.
However, it would seem 'RIP' singer Ora could be sitting in her seat instead. And as for Louis, it would seem that Simon is super-keen to re-sign him for an 11th year.
"Simon took a while to confirm he was definitely coming back and now he’s there he wants Louis by his side," a source told The Sun.
"They are old pals and he knows that he couldn’t do it without Louis. Louis hits a certain audience and has been a constant on the panel — he is someone that Simon trusts.
"He’s his eyes and ears when Simon’s not around which, for a control freak like Simon, is vitally important."
Cheryl has been rumoured for a comeback ever since her final season back in 2010, and recently hinted that there was again no truth to the speculation as she tweeted: "Same rumours different day/year."
A source had previously told The Mirror: “Cheryl is in a good place – the best she’s ever been. Simon is after her but she’s having to do some real soul-searching to see if she really wants to throw herself back into the *spotlight.”
Representatives for the show and the judges maintain that no decisions have been made yet.
