Gaga or Bey? Or was it equal?

Points to note:
- Gaga was coming out of the Fame era
- Beyoncé was coming out of the IASF era

I think in light of recent collab speculations, it's an interesting question to examine.

Definitely both. Without the both of them singing it, (i think) it would be a basic song.

That's always what I hear, but I think people underestimate Bey's global appeal coming out of the IASF era.

I think it was quite 50/50. Maybe even 40/60 in Bey's favor.

Well, since the Fame was already released and had already sold many copies before Telephone, it's likely that it was Beyonce.


I'd say both,...the video is probably what drove its success tbh.

It was a sum of its parts.

Beyoncé, I only like her part in the song and she was the star in the video.

True. At the time I was kinda swept into the Gaga machine and thought she had this immense power, but after the dust has settled, I'm beginning to see that maybe we were overestimating her.

Like I said, Beyonce was a big name after IASF and her power is still evident till today.

Both. The song was horrendous, but through their combined star power they barely crossed 3.2 million in the U.S.

If I had to pick one, I'd go with Gaga. The Fame was considerably bigger than I Am...Sasha Fierce and Gaga just came off of "Bad Romance," which is somewhere around 5 million singles sold in the U.S. Beyoncé was just coming off of "Put It In A Love Song" which didn't chart (it never had a music video, though).

Gaga was a hit machine during TFM era, so it'd have slayed with or without Beyonce.

But Beyonce was a part of its success too, no deny.

Video phone? The 8th urban only single from the album? Was expected to smash?
