Is it unfair Drake can make a song like HOWGH, yet Nicki...
would most likely be scrutinzed for releasing a song like Marilyn Monroe?
I kinda get why hip-hop fans turned away from her when she released songs like Starships and PTA, because they're generic EDM tracks and easy hits. I have feling tho that even if she released a song like MM that was all singing but not dance pop, people would still have an issue with it.
Why is it Drake and Wayne can get away with being versatile and singing on full tracks, but Nicki can't? She's better than both of them vocally as well. Drake has a good voice, but he's limited. So is Nicki, but she has more vocal experience.

Good point, I think HOWGH still has a lot of hip hop elements to it while Starships was pretty much all pop

HOWGH is less of a departure from 'urban' music than Starships.
Plus Starships is the pits

The same reason people still liked Super Bass, Turn Me On and Save Me, Starships and Marilyn Monroe sucked.

her "singing" isn't the issue , it's the the type of music she's singing too

First Starships was horrid it was clearly a rip off of Super Bass.
HOWGH is still very much urban it doesn't have much pop in it .

If Nicki released a song like that, people would definitely call her a sell out. So yes, it's unfair. She's female and people are putting so much pressure on her.

I don't mind if she or Drake sings, it's the beat.
Same with Pound the Alarm. She raps on that song a bit, but the beat to it is awful imo.
I actually don't mind Marilyn Monroe. I'm one of those people that hated Starships and Pound the Alarm, but I thought Marilyn Monroe was alright, and I think it could have been a crossover hit (well, if urban radio wasn't so dis-enchanted with her at the time).
I'd prefer Nicki to do a song singing on a hip hop beat than her to do a song of her rapping on a dance-pop beat, if that makes sense.

There's no point of comparison, HOWGH has some hip hop elements and it's only one song while half of PF:RR are EDM and pop.

HOWGH was more R&B than EDM, and Drake has always sort of straddled the line between 'singer' and 'rapper'. I don't think you can really compare him to Nicki in that respect.

Some of y'all need to re-read my OP tho.
I wasn't talking about Starships. Even if she had released Save Me or Marlyn Monroe, I still feel like the hip-hop community would shun her.
HOWGH and How to Love may have had RnB influences, but tbh, both those songs are pop.

HOWGH had some R&B influences in it and it doesn't stray too far from songs Drake has done in the past [ex: Marvin's Room or Find Your Love]. Everybody was okay with Super Bass & Save Me, yes? They were pop songs but they were still very Nicki. Starships tarnished any potential praise that MM or any of the pop songs on PF:RR could've gotten... if they were good.

She sang on Moment 4 Life and Your Love, and those tracks were pretty well received, from what I remember.
