Justin Bieber is having one hell of a 2014 — licking nipples, drag-racing Lamborghinis, and smoking pot are just a few of his many indiscretions — and the American public can't seem to get enough of what appears to be an epic Lindsay Lohan- or Britney Spears-esque downward spiral. (Last week, a petition to deport the Canadian heartthrob reached 100,000 signatures, necessitating an eventual White House response.)

This kind of thing happens to female celebrities all of the time (see also: Amanda Bynes), so it’s weirdly refreshing to see a male star's every naughty move documented in excruciating detail 24 hours a day.

Meanwhile! Rihanna — one of the biggest female stars of our time who just tied Michael Jackson for third place in the list of artists with the most number-one Hot 100 singles — remains immune to backlash even though she does a lot of the same stuff that's getting Bieber in so much trouble right now.

Rihanna is classy and caring and a good person tho, and she knows how and when to behave or be a particular way. Like the Unapologetic era performances for example.

It's all about their audience. Justin built his whole career out of being a role model for young kids. Never Say Never capitalized on his image as wholesome and down to earth. Rihanna's niche has never been impressing children or their parents. Their fans are obviously going to react in polar opposite ways.
