Why Justin Bieber is not Miley Cyrus
Quote:
By now most adults are sick of hearing about the shenanigans of teen star Justin Bieber, who’s managed to stay in the news lately for all the wrong reasons. From wild visits to strip clubs to recklessly driving his Ferrari to an alleged DUI and resisting arrest charge to egging his neighbors house to police raids on his mansion, the Biebs has been front and center on the gossip pages of tabloids and blog sites everywhere.
While Bieber might consider his behavior as a simple ascension into manhood (most adult males have had their share of teenage “events” that they would rather forget), it seems that he’s failed to consider what it’s doing to his career along the way. Yes, he’s doing a great job of crushing it into tiny pieces, as the putrid box office take of around $6 million of his recent film Believe shows. Considering that his last film Never Say Never grossed about $73 million in the US alone just two years ago, and he’s released a series of recent songs that never even charted, it looks like his career has hit the skids seemingly overnight.
But how is Miley Cyrus any different from Beiber, you ask? Miley’s actions have been cold and calculated, done on-stage for the greatest promotional bang-for-the-buck to get her fans to think of her in a new way and forget her past. Mission accomplished. Bieber’s exploits have no marketing rhyme nor reason, just some kid with too much money playing out his fantasies before the public’s prying eyes. He’s in the news now not because of his sales or YouTube views or concert attendance, but because he’s now such a train-wreck that TMZ has an army of cameras focused on his every move.

I remember when people would say that when Miley got around this age she would be going to rehab or getting arrested, but I think MC is a just a bit too self-aware for all of that
Jokes aside Justin really does need some help

I think something everyone should get by now, is that Miley is way smarter than she gets credit for. The way she managed to completely ditch her old image, score hits and sell more than her last album shows that she knows exactly what she's doing.
Justin seems to be trying to having a good time. He doesn't get that being a public figure he comes under much greater scrutiny than the average teen. Every mistake he makes is going to be magnified and blown out of proportion.

that really puts things into perspective, and makes him look like even more of an idiot.
I may not have liked miley's antics but the girl is undeniably smart.

I appreciate the article. I keep seeing people try to group them together and it's like, Miley is in complete control and planning everything she does.

Bieber’s exploits have no marketing rhyme

I wouldn't be 100% sure about that.
I agree with the article though.

True. Tennessee does present some Brilliant marketing music stars. And most of the U.S. just calls us dumb hicks.

Miley Cyrus is smarter than Justin Bieber. And Miley Cyrus is only a little smarter than what people give her credit for, but Miley Cyrus is not THAT smart, or THAT self-aware. I'd be impressed if Miley Cyrus, with her next era, comes back with killer records. She's already used the "Controversial Card" to sell her music from "Bangerz." But, let's face it, "Bangerz" is trash, a really subpar album. She can't use the same "Controversy Card" twice in a row; it's almost always an immediate backfire -- look at Lady Gaga and her steep decline. For her next era, she has to use the "Great Music Card." Let the music sell because it's good (i.e. Wrecking Ball) and then sprinkle the era with "antics" here and there to maintain interest. But if Miley Cyrus goes on another "Look at me, ya'll! I'm controversial!" Promo Tour for her next album without the music to back it up, everyone will ignore it. That's just the way it goes, kid. You can't show an audience the same magic trick twice in a row. The general public is smarter than that. We'll see if Miley Cyrus is really self-aware to recognize this before her next release.

It annoys me when it takes dragging another star for the media to finally give Miley credit, but I agree.

Controversy gives you a bit of temporary buzz, it doesn't bring you from lower-tier Disney status to full-fledged pop girl status. Her music did that. Little tween fan base girls like Demi, Selena or even Ariana can only put out quick little singles that are cute for a minute and then forgotten a month later. Wrecking Ball and We Can't Stop are two of the biggest, and best, hits of last year. This isn't a What Does The Fox Say situation, she has the sales to back it up.
A lot of Bangerz is inconsistent and a bit cringe-worthy, but the quality is just as much there as any other pop girl we stan for. Hell, she's even still sitting on Drive, which is amazing and bound to be another hit should it see release. Let alone Get It Right, FU, and Someone Else. From this past year, I'd easily put it far above Katy, Gaga, and Britney's efforts in terms of quality.

Justin could've killed people. I don't think Miley has done anything that genuinely could've put lives at danger.
Edit: Oh wait, that was a nice read. I think Miley does know what she's doing and won't meltdown.

Although I regret Miley doing what she did at the VMA's, I do think she was smart with that move in her career. I really like Bangerz, Wrecking Ball is one of the best songs of 2013, and she has proven that she is a good singer.
