Police are investigating a shooting incident reported on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
The school's website posted an alert that the shooting took place in the school's electrical engineering building. Police set up a command post near the engineering mall, the Journal & Courier newspaper reported.
Police scanner traffic indicated that a person was in custody. Police were conducting a floor-by-floor, room-by-room search of the Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering.
Purdue University sent out a message to students and staff: "Shooting reported on campus; Bldg. Electrical Engineering; avoid area; shelter in place; Check www.purdue.edu for updates."
The school advised students and faculty to "remain sheltered in place until further notice."
Two students told the Journal & Courier they heard what sounded like two shots and saw someone who possibly had blood on his or her hands.
