What is the latest album that is more iconic and influential than the record-shattering 21?

I'm thinking Jagged Little Pill, which was released in 1995.

Outside of its sales, what is the influence?

Influential.. as in, artistry and acclaim? Probably Back to Black. It never got the same US sales, unfortunately, but I'd definitely say that is one of the defining and iconic of albums from the 2000s.

On what basis is it iconic or influential? I'm genuinely curious. There's no disputing it's record-shattering as far as sales go but that's a completely different thing.

It's not iconic, it was just very commercially successful.

I love Adele put 21 isn't really iconic outside of its sales and longevity.

I mean, people say Single Ladies (or any other big hits) is iconic because there are a lot of youtube parodies, yet they conveniently forget the fact that the songs on 21 are covered too many times by actual artists, in studio albums, live concerts or just some random performances.

So some people really like to pretend that the album hasn't changed/influenced the industry and some people like to pretend that it wasn't the most talked about album in forever?

Then again, ATRL =/= the GP, who do consider the album to be very memorable and iconic, so most people's opinions on here are invalid to start with and only deny it because they're still pressed.

edit: Hell, I mean everyone on here still mentions it when their fav does a "personal" album or a ballad and always say "oh, it'll be her 21", etc, etc.

Way more iconic than any forgotten Janet album, that's for sure.
