Kelly Clarkson: Why did she Flop?
Was her album really that bad or did Clive kill her album with lack of promotion?
Also, is it true that Clarkson told Clive something like: "You're 80 years old; you don't know what young people like"?
Also, releasing such a subdued song like Sober during the summer is not very smart, who's making all these bad decisions?

My December is a solid album. I blame Clive and the entire label for refusing to promote an artist like Clarkson properly. Now that the Autumn is approaching, it would be a perfect time to release Sober with a symbolic and powerful video in the U.S., while Don't Waste Your Time is released in the U.K. Then, come winter, switch singles like Nelly Furtado did, and then if both Clive and Kelly decide to work on a new project, then that's fine.

Interesting, she flopped because of HER!
I'm really pissed of with her because before the album release she was like "Breakaway is better, blah blah"
I mean, the ... album is yours! How can you say that? People lose interest on it! Ugh!

She had way too much negative publicity surrounding it.

Kelly had a crap load of promo. Awarness was very high when the album hit and she also mounted a massive talk show tour to just promote THE SINGLE. Then she did the talk shows again to promote the album.
The album didn't sell because it was the wrong material. Radio won't touch an album like 'My December'. Clive told her that and she didn't listen.
Same thing happened to Pink with 'Try This'.

^kelly fans won't take that, but it is INDEED TRUE! She, just like Chris Brown is doing now, let her fame get in her head. So on the follow-up they feel the need to steer away from what made them sucessful. Kelly trying the dark/gothic pop = Evanescence, NO! Chris trying the complete Urban scene = BIG NO!
I'm not trying to say artists shouldn't try new things, but they don't have to make themselves radio unfriendly.

My december is a part 2 from her last album. She didnt reinvent herself, changed anything or even waited enough time for us to rest from her singles. It's pretty obvious why it wasn't as succesful as her last album.

I don't see anything wrong with the material. Release a 2nd single that has some kind of promotional video and see wut happens. I guarantee one more single and she's got platinum for sure.

^i doubt it. Anticipation died after the Kelly vs Clive crap started, it completely died after "Sober" flopped. I doubt, at least without a re-release, that this album can rebound. If there is any possibility of that then she needs a new single by Oct., promote it like hell with a good video, so she can benefit from inflated sells. Otherwise all the new diva albums (Britney, Mariah, Ashlee, Alicia) will trample her out of the Top 100.

I also think she just needs to release a new video. At this point, it doesn't matter anymore for what song it's gonna be, but she needs any kind of promo she can get. And a new video is the faster and easier thing to do now, 'cause keep promoting a 5 months old single is not gonna make the album sell again.

Like I said. Any new single with a video will catapult this album to platinum. She sold almost 700,000 copies now with that one single...I'm sure the album can pick up with almost any single now...she hasn't had a song that hasn't hit Top 10 in a while..."Walk Away" @ #12 has been her only hiccup and that song was successful too.

that near 700,000 was her loyal fanbase. the other 4.4 million have gotten lost into digital downloads and not hearing the same Kelly anymore.

TERRIBLE choice for a second single, and then no follow up to try and save the album - oh and the fact that she wouldn't replace 5 tracks like Clive asked her to

She flopped because she stopped getting down on her knees for Clive.

well, there are several reasons. first of all, her label screwed her over by not promoting "Sober" more and directing a legitimate video for it. Second of all, it's only been out for less than 3 months so they really need to get out another 2 or 3 singles to really determine whether this album is a true dud or not. but ultimately, the album is just not very good, the themes and production are too repetitive and it doesn't show a great deal of emotional growth from Breakaway. It's not a terrible cd but it's just not that good.
