That's a good a1c! You should be fine! My uncle has had it for years and he doesn't take care of himself at all and he's fine, so I try not to even think about those scary things since I live a healthy lifestyle.
And you probably were taking too much insulin at bedtime/dinner whenever. When I notice patterns like that I always e-mail my endo asking for help with better doses. Same thing if I'm running too high. When I get any number over like 130 I ask myself if I'm a bad person, which is every day
