Usually it's cause you grow apart. In my case it was a high school best friend and we came to a point after 12 years, that we grew apart and were so different there's no point in forcing things to work. When you're walking on eggshells trying to not offend the other because you're so different, it's just not worth the effort. Best to move on in a civil manner and cherish the memories.

Yes, a few. I took a different road then they did and we didn't have anything in common anymore. Sometimes you just outgrow(or they outgrow you) your friends. And I am fine with that

Well said. And it's funny. As you get older, little things you never cared about when younger start bothering you. Such as the way they spend money, political beliefs, etc. IRL, I'm not very vocal about those things, but I'll quietly cool down a friendship based on those 2 things I just mentioned if they're not in alignment.
