Elle is kind of funny that way. Sometimes, you don't know what to make of them. Elle takes risks with cover girls that other magazines won't,
Gabby Sidibe
Melissa McCarthy
but at the same time, when they do put forth the effort, they often don't get it quite right or there's some controversy surrounding it. Mindy's cover gives me a "one of these things is not like the other" vibe, like they would have posed and shot her differently, if she was straight sized. You know, why couldn't Mindy have a fly body shot in the latest ready to wear like the other women? All too often, plus sized women are displayed from the neck up,
or the boobs up.
Rare is the mainstream magazine cover with a plus sized actress that doesn't go to great lengths to cover up or obscure said actress/star's body. So, that's why some people are mad at this Mindy cover, for those who don't get it. They took something, which would have been really awesome (Mindy on Elle cover with other fabulous TV women) and turned it into a tired trope (plus sized chick being marginalized).
