Guest artists for Carnival II revealed
August 30, 2007 - Wyclef Jean's forthcoming new Columbia Records release, The Carnival II: Memoirs of an Immigrant, will feature a bevy of interesting guest artists.
The album, which is Jean's sixth full-length solo endeavor, picks up on the themes of his 1997 debut effort, Wyclef Jean Presents The Carnival Featuring Refugee All-Stars.
While the first single, "Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)," features Akon, Lil' Wayne and Niia, these are not the only high profile guests making appearances throughout the album.
Jean has called upon a richly diverse list of collaborators which include Paul Simon on a track named "Fast Car," Mary J. Blige, T.I., Norah Jones, Akon, Serj Tankian of System Of A Down on the song "Trouble Again." Shakira and a few other surprise guests pop up along the way, as well.
The Carnival II: Memoirs of an Immigrant was produced in its entirety by Jean along with long-time production partner, Jerry "Wonda" Duplessis.
I must say, I'm most excited about the Paul Simon and Shakira collabs. I'm a huge Simon & Garfunkel fan and a huge Shakira fan (as they are both superb musicians). The Norah Jones and Mary J. Blige and other stuff is cool too, but P. Simon and Shak pwn the rest.
It can flop all it wants. Bottom line is that it has a handful of excellent artists that may offer some promising tracks. From the perspective of a music fan, its commercial success should be an afterthought.
But I forgot, many ATRL users are pseudo-marketing gurus in training.
