"Eruption" (Van Halen)
"My first track has got to be 'Eruption' by Van Halen. My older brother was playing it when I was really young and I had no idea that that was a guitar! It really sparked my interest in music and made me want to learn an instrument."
"For Whom the Bell Tolls" (Metallica)
"I think I was probably 14 or maybe 15 when I first heard 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' by Metallica. I was already into rock, but I was into really bad '80s crap! But the dark, heavy sound that they created, that was definitely something else!"
"Caffeine" (Faith No More)
"There are so many Faith No More songs that I love, but probably my favourite one is 'Caffeine' from the album 'Angel Dust'. Fieldy [KoRn, bass] and I were both huge Faith No More fans and in the same way Van Halen and Metallica spun my world, Faith No More did too."
"Satch Boogie" (Joe Satriani)
"After getting into Van Halen, Metallica and Faith No More, then I started playing guitar and started listening to real muso stuff like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. I really love Joe Satriani's 'Satch Boogie' because it's really complex and over the top."
"The Audience is Listening" (Steve Vai)
"Steve Vai is definitely one of my favourite artists, still, because of what he can do with a guitar. He's so innovative and he's always imitated. He came out with a seven-string with the album 'Passion and Warfare' when I was like 21. I knew I could never play like that, but I knew if I could use that seven string and detune and use it in a different way, I might be able to create something unique. I'm currently listening to 'The Audience is Listening,' which he performed as part of G3 [which also featured John Petrucci (Dream Theatre) and Joe Satriani] in Tokyo a couple of years ago."
"Quote Unquote" (Mr Bungle)
"I think it was originally called 'Travolta,' but then they had to change it for legal reasons to 'Quote Unquote'. Basically it's the first song on their first album release - they just ****ing redefined what was possible with music with all the different directions they went in. I think it gave me a new sense of heavy. It taught me that heavy doesn't have to be disorted, it can be emotionally heavy and have that 'take you on a journey' sort of thing."
"Kid A" (Radiohead)
"I know it's not that guilty, but for a KoRn member it probably is. But I love Radiohead. I just really love that band. Their track that really does it for me is 'Kid A'. Well, it's a toss up between that and 'Everything in it's Right Place' but I'm going to say 'Kid A' because I think that whole album is incredible."
