WalMart - S. Florida Ave. Lakeland , FL - # (863) 644-5676 _ Monica and Matt are the managers who I dealt with. They treated me like garbage honestly.
I purchased an Ipad mini from a Wal Mart store in Lakeland Fl, S. Florida Ave. on 12-14-13, , got home, did some work on the computer Then opened the Ipad, there were BOOKS INSIDE.. NO IPAD MIN...
WalMart managers Monica and Matt Bean said they couldn't do a thing and were very disrespectful,.$300 is a lot of money to me. I am a full time college student and can not afford to simply buy another tablet. I don't know what else to do..
Apple customer service said they can not do anything to help...
WalMart corporate customer service said they can not do anything , took my info and said a District Manager MAY contact me in 2-5 business days..
The information in this video sheds much light on what most likely happened..
This is why you always check before you buy. My auntie bought my cousin a PS3 before, wrapped it up, and he opened it up on Christmas. They were shocked to see there was only rocks inside the box.
It isn't Walmart's fault. This is a known scam to buy a product like an iPad, take it from the box, re-seal it, then return it for the refund. It's sealed so they assume the product is still in there and don't open for inspection.
Anyone can buy an iPad, go home, take the iPad out, then come back and say there were books in the box. Whether they refund you is solely on the manager's discretion.

!
That's why you buy from the Apple Store or online.
You really can't say it's not Walmart's fault, though, when it really is. They can honestly tell him "yes, this is a returned product" because that is in their store records, and if it is, then it's clearly been tampered with and he should either be reimbursed or given another iPad Mini.

Nah. I mean, he could try to get money for damages and has a very legitimate case on his side, given that Walmart is apparently refusing to release information that could clear up the situation in a second, but the time and money for the trial proceedings and his lawyer and all would just make it not worth it in the end.
This is a really complicated situation. Since this has happened before, and was well documented on the news, it could be a fake. He could be making it up. But since it's happened before, it's easier for me to wrap my head around it. Thieves will do anything for a quick buck. I wouldn't be surprised if someone did do this. Walmart (and any retailer who sells and authorizes the return of merchandise worth several hundred dollars) needs to start inspecting electronics before returning them. I don't give a **** if it has a million layers of stickers, wrapping and tape on it; cut the package open before returning it. If you can't sell it after opening it, have it resealed by the factory. This is somebody's hard earned money at stake here, and the managers are acting like it isn't their problem.

EXACTLY! I work at Home Depot and our system is kind of similar to Walmart's. We are able to keep track of returns. They could easily look it up and see that it was a bad return. They probably already have and realized their mistake, and are trying to cover their asses.

Good point. I think Walmart is trying to figure something out. People are calling Walmart and asking why anything isn't being done. The video even made the front page of reddit.

I don't know why y'all are acting surprised. Walmart ranks REALLY LOW in customer service. Although I don't mind buying from some of their departments, I wouldn't expect much from them.Go onto yelp and see how many Walmart stores out there have only one or two stars for their OVERALL rating.

It was returned completely sealed. They would have every reason to assume that the original iPad was still in there because it looked brand new. If they opened it just to make sure that the iPad was in there, it would then be considered used and they'd have to re-seal it again. No business is going to do that.
The best way to do it is to have very specific scales that are connected to Walmart's system and knows the weight of items like that. If it's off, they'll know that the iPad isn't in there. They could also get an x-ray system like at airports but that may be a bit OTT.
