Why hasn't The Voice produced a bona fide star yet?
The Voice has had many contestants over the past 3 years, but none of them have really had massive breakout success yet. Idol has produced many superstars like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, and even though the X Factor hasn't produced any big stars yet either, it does have credibility being the American version of the show responsible for One Direction. The Voice, on the other hand, hasn't had that luck. Why is that so?
The last really big winner from a talent show like this in the US was Carrie Underwood, like I don't get why people think they'll find success on these shows. Even then, talent shows are now all about who can get the biggest named judge to sign up. They don't care in promoting the artist anymore.
Because unlike what they try to preach on the show, being a superstar is more than having a good voice. Sadly, (or not - whatever) we don't live in the 60's anymore.
Well it ain't like Idol was producing stars by the time its ratings were down to the level Voice has been.
Also a lot less of a novelty factor of choosing a "star" from a reality show now that it's been like a decade of these shows.
It's just about the material really. Same with why the X-Factor winners and latest American Idol winners have flopped. No one wants to give them hit songs. Most reality shows winners albums are filled with filler and terrible/no singles
These shows are all about the judges, not the contestants. And in reality, most of the contestants have a good voice but lack the star power, the charisma, the looks (not being shallow but am I lying?), or the "X-Factor" () that a celebrity/pop star should have.
People watch it mainly for the chemistry between the mentors and alot of people root for the mentors rather than the contestants themselves. It probably won't change, because NBC wants to keep those ratings. As many faults as Idol and X Factor may have, I always feel much more connected to the contestants on those shows then I do on the Voice, and am thus more likely to buy music from them.
I don't know, especially since the songs do very well on iTunes. Viewers are fickle, I guess.
Not all that well, except for the first day or so each week.
S1 only hit digital T20 for finals week.
S2 had 2 songs in the bottom quarter of the digital T20.
S4 didn't do it a single time.
