Discussion: #1 album vs #1 single, which is more important?

I'd rather have both obviously.

But which is more important to you?!?! Would you rather your fave obtain a #1 single or a #1 album?!?!

If I had to choose I'd obviously say #1 album, since my fave has so many. But she also has many #1 singles as well. So it's hard.

But #1 albums just seems more important because it's a complete body of work.

depends on how much the album sells to hit number 1.
like if its a number one album with 100k then id take a number 1 single.

but besides that, id rather an album.

Money wise its Albums. But legacy wise I'd say singles, whenever people talk about for example Michael Jackson they talk about Thriller, Smooth Criminal, Man in the mirror etc... In the end the single is always more remembered than the album.

Well all of my faves has both. But it's a single that is more remembered than the entire album. For example Adam Lambert had a number one album with 78 k or something, which is really not impressive.

Both are absolutely irrelevant because GP isn't even aware when something hits #1. The overall success and the longevity of the product are the things that actually matter.

#1 singles are more prestigious I think.

People brag about #1 singles years later. Whereas with albums they tend to talk about general sales (platinum etc).

Generally only flops and their followers brag about #1 albums, because somehow going #1 with 100k then never reaching gold is impressive.

Singles are harder to achieve and leave a legacy. And like already posted; a single leaves behind legacy. The GP knows the songs by name, not the album.

They're both prestigious, for example Bey and her 4 #1 albums like it or not its prestigious and definitely something to be proud of but then you have Rihanna and Katy with their #1s which is just as impressive and prestigious as well

Death, isn't it obvious? An album is about €12 on iTunes and a single is €1.29. Question answered.

I think the point RomanNavy was trying to make is someone can release and album when competition is not that high score a number 1 album, but have 1st week sales under 100k and a year later that album still isn't gold or platinum.

Whereas with singles more factors are weighed into the Hot 100 placement: usually an artist has to have good radio support, sales, video streaming.

Depends on the sales. If the album went platinum in the end then I'd take the #1 album easily but if it sold like 100k I'd take the single
