She'd been discussed as a possibility on Kryptonsite and the
poster had given the URL to this IMDb picture:

That's not the picture they used in the People article, and I think
it's just as well because the one above is pretty much perfect
and impossible to live up to. The People one makes her look
more plausible including Kara having the crush on Jimmy.
After the Kryptonsite poster suggested her I made a post to the
SV+ Smallville Resurgence thread here less than two weeks ago
commenting. Here's what I wrote then:
"That's a direct URL to one of her pictures, the best and most
Kara-evoking one. The others not quite so much, but when you
first click that picture above and see it, your reaction might be
(like mine), that she's impossibly beautiful and they've got their
Kara sign her up. A few Kryptonsite posters had that reaction.

(Not saying they just based it on that, but I hadn't and haven't

Gough says in the People article, of Kara and/or Vandervoort
it's not entirely clear from the context but presumably it's both:
"She's a combination of beauty, intelligence, a certain warmth,
and great attitude..." They saw "hundreds" of actresses and
"found perfection" (People's word -- also tough to live up to :-)) in Vandervoort. "She was speechless but she was very excited," Gough says of Vandervoort's reaction to the news.

Supergirl is coming to the CW's Smallville. Canadian actress Laura
Vandervoort just got the call Wednesday that she has been cast and will
start shooting with Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum and Aaron Ashmore
next week in Vancouver.


"She's a combination of beauty, intelligence, a certain warmth, and
great attitude," Smallville co-creator Al Gough tells PEOPLE. "We've
wanted a character to shake things up. She may be Clark Kent's cousin,
but that doesn't mean she's going to be the obedient one!"


Since mid-May, when DC Comics approved of introducing Supergirl to the
Smallville series, creators Gough and Miles Millar have seen hundreds of
actresses for the part but found perfection in Vandervoort, 22, of
Toronto, who may be known to fans of the cable series Instant Star as
Sadie Harrison. "She was speechless but she was very excited," Gough
says of Vandervoort's reaction to the news.


Supergirl will be introduced to viewers as Kara, Clark's cousin, who was
born on Krypton and has all of Clark's powers plus the ability to fly.
Watch for her to spark romance with Jimmy Olsen (Ashmore) as well.

"Smallville" is a cool show. I should watch it more often (I almost always forget when its on). I definitely enjoyed last season's finale.

That girl that's gonna be Kara seems like a pretty good actor to me since I watch Instant Star and she's in the show and all.

I wonder if she's going to be brunette or blonde in the series, I thought it was lame how in the film she was brunette when she was 'boring and normal' and when she was a 'cool superheroine' she was blonde. But that was back in the day when people still rated blondes. She should be who she is regardless of hair colour but if it does have to change, it should be a wild colour just so as not to fuel all the brunette/black vs blonde (reds can go either way) competative crap.

It's an interesting angle though for Smallville, have the two characters actually ever been together on screen?

Chloe is NOT dead, confirmed. She's not dead yet. While Kristen Kreuk said her contract still in negotiate whether she's going to stay or not, if she's stay her character Lana might be alive (Hmm, hello? The posts-man truck at the finale everyone?).

Anyway, this new girl looks quite awesome. Can't wait.
