I know the Wii U is pretty new but currently flopping and the 3DS only had a few years but still slaying and has not peaked but I was thinking about what nintendo should do next.

I was thinking by the time they decide to bring out a new console the tech would be so good they could combine home consoles and portable ones.

My idea is kinda like the wii u but it would be like the 3ds with a controller with two screens and 3d and a wireless chip to plug into the TV to play in HD. I know nintendo would like to grab more money by keeping them separate but stil....

A lot of the Wii-U's problem was branding (though it did have a game drought for a while) more than anything.

If they want to continue in the home console market then they need an entirely new console with a new name, period. They fumbled the launch of the Wii U so badly. Most people thought it was just an extension of the Wii, not an entirely new console. Really such a poor name choice.

It's not like Nintendo hasn't had "flop" eras before though (Gamecube anyone? Albeit Wii U is far worse off) so they could come back, they just need to do what Nintendo does best - innovate and push gaming forward. That's what made the original Wii such a success and what will save them in the future.

They need to stop remaking the same series over and over again. Mario, Zelda, Smash, Kart. Rinse and Repeat. The reason the Wii was a successful system was because of the motion control being the first of its kind. The Wii U really offers nothing special over any of the other 8th gen systems and that is why it isn't selling. Apparently even Super Mario 3D World couldn't really even raise the sales of the system.

If the issue is about making "good games" as stated above then Nintendo is miserably failing at that with the Wii U. As of now, the Wii U might have 2 to 3 good exclusive games, and it has been more than a year into its release. They have been delivering a myriad of unexceptional games for the Wii U and not enough major great game titles.

If they want the Wii U to be a success they need to do at least some of the following...

1. Release a new IP: Show the buying public and gamers that Nintendo isn't just offering the same thing over and over again. Give them a reason to buy the Wii U instead of just holding on to their Nintendo Wii.

2. Change the name of the Wii U or start effectively marketing it as a new system: Many people do not even know the Wii U exists or is an entirely separate system from the Nintendo Wii.

3. Release quality games at a quicker rate: They continuously push back games that are quality releases, and continue to release sub-par games that no one is going to buy.

The reason the Wii U is flopping is because there is not enough reason for the buying public to purchase the system over the PS4 or XBOX One. First and foremost, they need to release Wii U exclusives that make the system standout over its competition. Either do that, or they can mindlessly pander to family audiences and hope they purchase the system.

1. Brand-image change. "Nintendo" is a toxic name for the middle to hardcore gaming consumer. Do something about it. Hire Apple marketers or something. Make them dudebros feel like they are buying a d*ck enlarger.

2. Buy buy buy. They NEED to buy more and more little or struggling studios so they can release games when EAD Kyoto/Tokyo are busy developing their flagship titles.

3. Bye Miyamoto. His gaming phylosophy and how it does extends to many of the games Nintendo releases is a burden to the company. He was a visionary, but his vision does not fit 2013.

4. New IPs. And even more important, ADVERTISE those IPs as if they were the next Zelda or Mario. Thats how Sony birthed like 5 succesful new IPs is a fraction of years.

5. Dont drop the gimmicks. The worst they can do is to drop the gimmicks. They need an equally powerful console to the other competitors but also a gimmick that can differentiate them.

6. Expand the business. If Microsoft and Sony are allowed to release super powerful machine is because they can sell them at a loss, relying on their other succesful ventures. Nintendo is noble to believe that they should only make videogame related electronics, but I think they can use their cult following to expand themselves into other fields, MOSTLY into smartphones.

File for bankruptcy.....

1. Buy some third-party gaming support.
2. Add online to their repertoire to compete with Microsoft/Sony.
3. Keep releasing first party games.
4. Make the 3DS more compatible with the Wii U. People would be blown away with the ability to use their 3DS as a controller. I remember everyone getting hyped over SSB4 because they thought they'd be able to do that.
5. New IPs.
6. Stop selling Wiis.
7, Create a virtual community that allows people to develop their own WiiWare games.

They need less kid gimmicks

How about release a console that isn't completely underpowered and obsolete compared to the competition and which has exclusives which don't seem to be aimed at either those living in 1996 or the 8 and under age group?

What a foolish post.

Nintendo has 10 billion in the bank. They could fail with every console they release for the next one or two decades and not even burn through all their cash. Plus if needed a company of Nintendo's size can easily borrow money when needed.

Essentially. You and I will be in our 50's at least before Nintendo is anywhere near real financial disaster even if they keep underperforming.
