I remember this song a long time ago. It was featured on one of the Totally Hits (3?) CD right?

yeah, she had a strong voice, but she flopped and it seems like they didnt give her more chances

I didn't know she was African American. O.o I remember this song as well for being on a "Totally Hits" CD that I owned and quite enjoyed, however, I don't remember either the video or a follow up single. = /
