Do you plan on visiting/posting on ATRL?

Can you see yourself listening to music the way you do now? Like most of us just sit on our computer and listen to music all the time. But when you are 30, do you plan on spending most of the day listening to albums? Or do you expect to be doing 'other' stuff? *I mean in your free time...obviously we are gonna have a real occupation; in your free time in other words...music over other stuff*

From what I see...as you get older, you tend to listen to LESS music and older people tend to go MORE towards TV.

I don't watch TV and frankily I hope I don't in the near future. I 'plan' on listening to music my whole life. I'm afraid of spending my older age watching TV. That is one reason why I'm afraid of getting old. I love music and I want to listen to it all the time <333

LOL! On the ATRL page though...I don't know. I don't feel so weird posting here as a 21 year old, but when I'm 30, I frankily don't wanna post here. I might 'visit' it, but I probably won't post.

Also....just a stupid question...but can you picture yourself (if you are a pop fan) listening to the music you listen today when you are perhaps 30? 40? 50? I'm a huge fan of Britney Spears and Jesse McCartney and it's gonna be such a shame to my 'family' if I'm listening to Jesse McCartney/Britney Spears when I'm 45

So....go at it! What do you think? This is a good topic to think about....

Tell me how that goes for you . I joined when I was around 18 or so. It would be pointless for me to join for a year then just leave because of what you said (19-20). Haha. I just have a lot of free time I guess, so I spend it on ATRL .

I'm now 17
and I won't turn 20 for 2,5 years
so that's a lot of time

I will probably stay till 16...maybe. I just hope more Nelly fans join. Atrl is ruled by Fergie fans.

I don't think that I will leave until after college, but I probably will still visit every now and then just to see who the new members are and what's happened with this site.

I think I'll be here forever.

I do not plan to do anything, really. It just depends on how active the site is, if it is even there, if I still know people on it, etc. I guess we will see.

Haha, I already do that compared to two years ago, or even a year ago. I think I like it more because with TV you can randomly walk around and are not really "stuck" at the same place. I still listen to a fair amount of music but I tend to be more flexible now.

I think I have been understanding the fear of growing up. I used to think some things will be out of my reach and I will change, without any personal input, and these last two years have shown me how wrong my thinking was. I really started to believe in the mind and really, if you love music and want to continue listening to music, only you can let yourself drift away. You can either change your life or find a way to adjust to it, just depends on how you think about it.

I'll probably start fading away in about 3 or 4 years. Then I'll start college and I'll check every now and again, but I'm sure I won't be around much after college ends.

Well i;m already in college cobably when i finish college in the next 2 years i might fade away &leave but i will come in here once in a while just to see how the site has become.I kind of regreat not signing up for this site back in 2002

One couldn't plan something like that, although I certainly hope I have more interesting things going on when I'm 30 then gawking at whatever the equivalent of Fergie v. Nelly fights are in those days on here.

i will also probably fade away in like 2 years but i know for sure i'll still love music... Every forum always grow off me before I ever become a "vet". My longest addiction to a forum was for a I think a year. Looks like this forum might break that.

Age isn't usually the main factor for why it may seem people listen to less music as they get older - it's more like priorities and obligations/responsibilities that may take up more time. So then certain times (rather than randomly during the day) are associated with music or reading e.g. commuting to and from work.

The older people get though, it's more likely that they know what type(s) of music they like to listen to and so it may seem they are cutting down but really they are just sticking to their comfort zone. For others, music is a passion and they still spend a lot of time listening/playing it and get more devoted and knowledgeable as time goes on and for others it is nostalgia. I wouldn't dis-count dedicated music time from older adults particularly as 'younger/current' music is what gets the most media and fame, but behind that genres like adult contemporary are huge and there are more older people in society then ever before, the numbers of which are only going to rise because humans now live longer in wealthier nations (where there is more likely to be every genre of music available to buy/listen to at any time, where its less expensively portable and where there are always music shows). Most people listen to music, it might just not be as obvious because younger people tend to associate it with more overtly with lifestyle choices like fashion.

It's the same with tv - that's for anyone and people of all ages watch it to varying amounts based on things other than age.

As for me - I doubt I'll be here, and I don't know what type(s) of music I'll be listening to.
