It's just a word.. I just don't get how that word was attached to something "stupid".. Also, I think people that say it look dumb, like their vocabulary is lacking

Personally, I don't think so. I use the word in that manner all the time. But I can definitely see how one finds it offensive.

I don't find it offensive and I'm gay. Words change meanings all the time Gay used to mean happy. Then it went towards describing homosexual people and now it's used to describe something stupid.

It's one of those things people start saying, it just so happens to be very ignorant. It'll fade soon when a replacement word comes by.

The difference being that gay as happy is hardly ever used anymore. But gay as homosexual and gay as stupid are used alongside eachother, thereby making it problematic.

Of course it is "just a word" and all that, but if that's true then we can just as easily find another word to replace with "stupid". If we were saying "OMG that's so female!" it would not go over well.

Its fine. I know people that use it and they have gay friends. Obviously sometimes it can be problematic but eh.

Yes its offensive. You're using a term that groups people in a negative connotation. Do you see people going around saying "That's White!" "That's Black!" "That's Asian" "That's (fill in group here)". No you don't. I used the term "That's gay" before like 2-3 times but thats because as a gay person you feel like it takes the pressure off you from other people. I won't say that kind of stuff again though.

Then those people are essentially calling their friends stupid, or are themselves too stupid to care or realize where the expression originates.

Well it depends. I mean if you use it with friends that know you don't mean it to insult gay people then its ok. I do not thinlk it should be used in public. You know what I mean. I can't articulate it well. And nah the gay friends laughed at those instances.

I guess if you use it with friends you know aren't going to be offended then it's fine, but then why even use it at all? Why welcome a word into your vocabulary that you can only use if you are in the right circumstances? It's obvious that it is offensive, so just don't use it even with people who don't care, because if you're using it then, chances are it's going to slip out somewhere else too. Continually using it just makes it more common and acceptable for other people to use it.

Also I don't find the rationale that because some gay people are fine with it, it is okay to use it. Those gay people who allow abuse on the gay community aren't thinking it through.
