Merrick McKoy, 22, shot and killed his 19-month-old daughter Mia McKoy-Phanthavongsa before turning the gun on himself. Police responded to a phone call from the baby's mother Kimphone "Kim" Phanthavongsa, 21, who said her ex-boyfriend was inside her apartment with their child and had a handgun. Westminster Police in Colorado heard gunshots when they arrived and found a child and an adult with gunshot wounds.


Merrick McKoy posted about his motives and intentions just moments before killing his daughter.
Just before the cowardly McKoy, 22, allegedly shot his daughter in the head and killed her, he posted a photo of the two together and wrote several social media missives explaining his motive.


Mia's mother, Kimphone 'Kim' Phanthavongsa, 21, called police to alert them that her ex-boyfriend was inside her apartment with their child and had a handgun.

The little girl’s mother, Kimphone “Kim” Phanthavongsa, 21 had an active restraining order against McKoy following domestic violence incident. McKoy was charged with assault, burglary, trespassing and harrassment, ABC7 Denver reported.

Westminster Police in Colorado heard gunshots when they arrived at Phanthavongsa's apartment, seen above.

The Monday shooting was his only way out, he reasoned in his final Facebook post.

“Don’t judge me had no choice,” he wrote.
