Klein announced that Lopez will honor the memory of the legendary "Guarachera of Cuba" with a medley of some of his most famous subjects, but did not reveal what "it will be a surprise." Yes, the executive said there will be much dancing show and because the New York artist of Puerto Rican parents will take the stage accompanied by more than 30 dancers. "We will bring dancers come from countries like Colombia, it will be a great show in tribute to Celia, "he said. Celia Cruz, the Queen of Salsa

I don't understand the disrespect Jen recieves on this forum. Ya'll be doing the most.
Jen is an international superstar, an actress, a dancer, an icon, a successful businesswoman, a legend in the Latino world. She has broken down barriers and stereotypes in Hollywood and opened the doors for a new crop of Latina actresses in the 2000s such as Eva Mendez, Eva Longoria, Sofia Vergara, to name a few.
I don't see what's the problem. Latinos love her, she's a huge name, and she's a phenomenal dancer.

JLo is not as respected in the music community tho because she isn't as big outside the Latino culture. Our peeps support her of course but the anglos etc mostly view her as a sex symbol. That's the problem sis. Look at Ricky Martin and Jen's ex Marc Anthony; they get the same treatment as her: Latino love/support, outside the Latino circle they're seen as a joke. The amas are an anglo event as well, so the support of our peeps means **** if they aren't watching.
Another thing, Gloria Estefan is the Matriarch of female Hispanic pop singers. She opened the door for so many (including Jlo when it comes to latin artist crossovers and music). She was a close friend of Celia Cruz. Both performed together many times and had features in each others' albums. Gloria is also one of the very few Hispanic artists that is respected outside the Latino culture. This is why many including myself feel she should be in charge of this tribute. She's an older artist who worked with Celia. Jlo most likely knew and met her but Celia was dropping albums way before Jlo was even born! Ditto with Christina whom I adore, Shakira etc. Gloria would have been the best choice IMO but the AMAs are most likely going for a younger audience and a more recognizable artist to present the award.
Let's just all hope Jlo does the tribute performance justice; honoring Celia and representing us well!

I will agree that she is not much respected, but to say she's not as big outside the Latino culture is delusional.
Jennifer Lopez is a household name worldwide not just in the Latino community. You either know her as an actress/singer or a triple threat. She has had 6 #1 WORLDWIDE hits and she's well known internationally having sold 70+ million records around the world, not just within the Latino conmunity.
She's had Latin, R&B, Pop, Dance, Hip-Hop records hit #1 in many parts of the world not just within the Latin culture. She is likely to be the biggest and most successful crossover artist from films to music of all-time.
Whether you are in the UK, Japan, Australia, Canada, Brazil, Greenland, etc., you know who the f*** Jennifer Lopez is. She is a GLOBAL ICON with a career spanning 3 decades.
Hell, "On The Floor" alone was #1 in more than 20 countries. And has also become one of the best selling singles of all-time, selling close to 9 million copies WW. That speaks for itself.
I will agree that she is not much respected, but to say she's not as big outside the Latino culture is delusional.

Sis, you missed my point. I'm not arguing about physical recognition, accomplishments, nor resume stats; people worldwide know who Kim Kardashian is and that her clothing empire has garnered her millions. But is she respected? Hell no. Considered a big deal? No. Same with Jlo. Even with all her accomplishments she isn't considered as a big deal (or as big of a deal) outside our base. You yourself asked why she gets the eww treatment on here by the other Stans so I'll break it down. Comparisons & the lack of acknowledgement from the academy. Music wise: They'll compare her to Beyonce, Mariah, Christina and point out that she doesn't have any Grammys, sold as many albums/singles as them, nor sing as well as they do. And with Beyonce they'll add a shitload more comparisons. Sadly like with all artists it's the fans who care, everyone else dismisses, compares and drags.
Want another example? Janet Jackson and Pink. Incredibly talented artists but underrated by the academy and dismissed by many because their accomplishments + talents are compared to others; and also because the academy hasn't given them any respect. Janet got compared to every other female and her own brother Michael, who just so happens to be the king of pop. Ask yourself, how fair is it that she had to be compared with all the other girls in her category + the King and the Queen of pop? Add being snubbed by the academy. take pink's last album, it sold over 5million copies but Kelly clarkson won the Grammys. And while Kelly deserves the respect and awards she gets, that doesn't mean Pink doesn't deserve any either. but the academy thinks differently and snubs her. this is what increases the lack of respect and acknowledgement from the public. Pink & Janet could mop the floor with Gaga (one of my faves) for instance, but LG has the academy on her side so guess who also gets the public appreciation?!
Lastly, the AMAs are a Music award show. If Jlo had the respect that Mariah has in music, no one would question her presenting at all. But Jlo has little to no respect by the music academy, which is why she is getting the push-over treatment. I know it sucks but she isn't the only one. When the music academy finally accepts her (other than always asking her to attend the Grammys so that she can give someone ELSE a Grammy), you'll start seeing more positive responses towards her in the music field.

JLo don't have da voice to sing it ... nuttin against JLo yeah she dances great salsa but this is Celia Cruz, an Icon, da Queen of Salsa ... although Celia was very kind hearted and wouldn't mind her singing ... da fans will not accept it ... let JLo do a tribute to Iris Chacon before Celia
