Priyanka Chopra talks to the Wallstreet Journal about her new music career and how she handles the glare of unwelcome publicity. Edited excerpts from their conversation on “The Front Row.”
The Front Row: What was the hardest thing about becoming a singer? Do you have to consciously downsize your ego because you're a newcomer all over again?\
Priyanka: I didn't really have one. I think the most important thing of being successful is not being delusional about about who you are. I know I'm successful star in one part of the world, but I am not anywhere else.You can't be thinking ki mai toh superstar hoon, ab mujhe waise treat karo ("I am a superstar, so treat me accordingly"). It can't be like that.
The Front Row: Many of the reactions on Twitter have been negative and even hateful. How did you keep your head above the water?
Priyanka: I stopped reading it. People love to write crap on Twitter. Most of it is tolerable because I'm receptive to criticism, but it's absurd how nasty some people are. And not just Twitter, but the online world in general. The anonymity has made it so easy to be hateful and belittle people for entertainment, which is so sad. There are thee strange people literally furious because they never heard of me, but saw me on a website and send messages asking "Who the hell are you, why am I seeing your name? Go back to where you came from" and I'm thinking why does it bother you so much? I won't even go into some of the explicitly hateful ones... I went offline for a while, but then I came to the conclusion: Why should I let anyone drive me away from what's rightfully mine?
LOL probably, I think we're the only forum that has threads about her.
She's a major star in South Asia so I doubt that. Besides, the question was about Twitter trolls.
In any case, Internet hate is guaranteed with any celebrities, but the xenophobic ones are probably new to her. There are people complaining about her on black gossip sites too:

There are always going to be haters! 9 year old Willow Smith had haters!! The world we live in now is such... It's not going to go away anytime soon... And she's right. People love to pass hateful comments online.. It can be quite damaging. I dunno how she does it though.. Hats off for that. It sounds like she does read the negative ones.
