I've always wondered about the lack of popular Asian artists in the music industry, I mean aside from PSY who was obviously just a one-hit wonder who people simply laughed at and never took seriously what other asian artist has scored a global hit in recent years?
Some of the biggest stars in Japan and South Korea like Utada, BoA, Girl's Generation and 2NE have all tried to crack the US and other markets but failed, why?
Will we ever have an Asian pop girl slaying alongside Katy and Rihanna?
And do Black artists actually have it easier in the music industry than Asian's do?
Well, there's other asians who have had #1 hits recently like Jay Sean and Far East Movement (although they're from the UK and US respectively I believe). Also, I'm not 100% sure, but I think Naughty Boy might be asian, and he has had lots of success.
But overall I'd say it's more difficult for asian people than black people. It's more noticeable in the UK since we have a huge asian population here (as in a lot of Europe), but not many in the charts, whilst we have many black artists in the chart here.
Black, like in 2004 all the number one singles in the US were by black artists. And we have black popstars, Beyonce and Rihanna. The biggest popstar of all time Michael Jackson was black. Where are the asian popstars outside of Asia? Where are the number ones by asian artists that aren't one hit wonders and fade away shortly afterwards?

I think the problem that a lot of Asian artists have is the cultural difference. The super cutsy image of acts like Girl's Generation are popular in Asia among all ages, but in North America, that kind of image would only appeal to children.

I'd say Black musicians have made bigger strides in American mainstream music, but I hope this doesn't turn into a stupid debate about who is more oppressed and I also hope no one makes the mistake of thinking that Blacks have endless opportunities in American pop.

in fact they only have young adult/teenager fans, and that same amount of anti fans
Nobody thinks of Bruno Mars as asian, they think of him as latino or possibly even part black (like I used to before I knew what he was). Nicole is a big flop and was only successful with her white counterparts in PCD. M.I.A. isn't mega successful either.
