Corruption isn't really the problem that congress has. It is our election system, and adding term limits wouldn't really fix that.

If we had term limits I would say 12 years for both. 4 years is WAY too short..... congressmen generally take that long to even get their feet under them.

corruption is part of the problem as well as complacency. of course shorter term limits would help. they can always be reelected if they are doing a good job. if not then they get the boot. at this point those in congress know that they are safe so they play with american lives just to adhere to their ridiculous ideologies. to me that is a form of corruption. its not right.

What you mentioned isn't even what term limits are. Term limits is where they CANNOT run after a certain number of years.

You can probably stretch what US politicians do into corruption.... but it is a major stretch.

Politicians play the game as it is set up. Until we change the way elections occur nothing will change. Right now we have a winner takes all system which guarantees a two party system. The two party system and its primaries, combined with the fact that many congressional districts are not competitive, work together to make it so many rep's are not worried about losing to the other side in elections...... and are free to be ideologues since they are more worried about getting challenged in the primaries than in the general election.
