Massive overreaction.
In fourteen hundred ninety-two
True
Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
True
He had three ships and left from Spain;
True
He sailed through sunshine, wind and rain.
True
Christopher Columbus was a liar
Not really. By most reports he may have exaggerated, but told the situation as he saw it., greedy opportunist
Yes, kidnapper
Debatable, thief, rapist, a mass murderer
Lie and committer of genocide
Lie. Brought rats and diseases from Europe.
True, but hardly his fault. Someone from Europe would have come eventually. His ONE voyage wasn't alone enough to bring all the diseases anyways.
He didn't discover the Americas. There were native inhabitants in these lands thousands of years before Columbus and his cohorts ever set foot in any of the Americas. He wasn't the first European to land here either.
All true, but he was the first one to realize what it was and actively market it to Europe.
Columbus was the beginning of the American holocaust, ethnic cleansing characterized by murder, torture, raping, pillaging, robbery, slavery, kidnapping, and forced removals of the Native American people from their homelands.
All true on some level, but the incredible bulk of the killing was by disease, which would have come eventually one way or another. The forcible removal of Native peoples from their lands didn't happen till hundreds of years after his death so I think you are stretching to blame that on him.
I agree with you that the holiday is foolish. However exposing lies by lying yourself isn't the way to go.
....and before you ask YES I do have a degree in History
