It personally doesn’t bother me anymore but you’ve all heard it before, and for quite some time the phrase “That’s So Gay” was used by ignorant people to demean something or use it as a substitute for calling something stupid or lame.

But recently I heard one rather childish girl in my class use this phrase and it sparked in my head that I haven’t heard anyone use the word gay in this context for a LONG time, so what do you gals think?

Has society outgrow it? Or is it still lingering around?

I live in the UK and people that know me closely still say it like, "My laptop is acting so gay" and I'm there like, "yeah, that makes sense... "

Nah, I use it all the time and always hear it used. Doesn't bother me, the word used to mean Happy/Brightly Coloured, it went through a short period of meaning Homosexual Male and now it means lame. That's just what happens to words over time.

99.9% of the people who say it don't mean "Wow, that's so homosexual." That's the key difference between it being offensive or not.

People say it all the time. I say it. I personally don't find it offensive in the slightest... people really don't mean it with any malice

"you're acting like a dick"
"stop being an ass"
'that's so gay"

They use those words, because that's something no one wants to be. Obviously it's offensive, the worst word they can find for something being bad is "gay". How is that not insulting?

Yes. At least where I live. People don't really say it, but if they do somebody usually corrects them.
