Well, firstly, there's the oil. If we were to become independent, then any oil that we dig up in the North Sea will go straight to us. Aberdeen for example has recently struck oil and it's now turned into a relatively wealthy city overnight. There's so many jobs there due to the building of shopping centres, etc. It will soon grow into an urban city I think as more offices and industries are setting up there.
Scotland is currently being lead by possibly one of the smartest politicians in the UK. You don't have to even be that interested in politics to know that Alex Salmond is very bright. The SNP party are in my opinion the best we can get at the moment in terms of liberal politics. If Scotland was to become independent I don't doubt the SNP party will make sure that we go down the Scandinavian route in terms of politics and economics. Then hopefully our society as a whole would improve.
Tourism is also a big industry in Scotland and is increasing too. Scotland probably gets more consistent tourism than England because of the culture behind it and of course the amazing scenery in the Highlands. This would be a reliable income for the economy.
There are also environmental benefits too but I can't be arsed typing any more. I'm pretty sure everything I have said is opinion and is not the matter of being correct or incorrect so I shouldn't expect too many people trying to make arguments to prove anything I have said wrong. Like I said, becoming independent is a leap in the dark and no one actually KNOWS whether it will prove to be a success or not. All we can do is take a chance and see. It's better than doing nothing and remaining in a Conservative-ran government (which is definitely bound to happen in the next General Elections - something Scotland would not like at all since the Conservative party have virtually no voters up here besides a few wealthy areas).
