Two people have died in a crash involving a petrol tanker at Warriewood on Sydney's northern beaches.
Emergency crews are at the scene on Mona Vale Road after the crash about 3:40pm (AEST).
Police say the fuel tanker caught fire as a result of the multi-vehicle collision.
A number of buildings near the site at the intersection of Samuel Street have been evacuated as a precaution.
Mona Vale Road has been closed near the crash site and motorists are being urged to avoid the area.
702 ABC Sydney listener Michael says he saw the fuel tanker clip a silver car as it tipped over.
"Mona Vale Road is notorius for big trucks coming down a bit too quick.
"I think he hasn't made it through the round-about, and he's tried to correct the truck and flipped over." Michael told Richard Glover
Eyewitness Lee told Richard Glover "It was like something out of a movie," He said the vehicles the tanker collided with were totally engulfed in flames.
Lee continued to describe the scene, "The driver is in a really bad way. He's badly burnt. There are two ladies sitting on the road totally in shock."
Witness Fran Thawley spoke to ABC News 24 about the frantic moments after the crash.
"The fire was very, very big and the sky was filled with black smoke," she said.
"We just surveyed the scene but there wasn't a lot we could do at first because there was so much smoke and so much fire.
"We were making sure people were keeping out of the way. The fire was coming up the hill with the wind and we didn't know what was going to happen next."
A local teacher David Kennedy also heard the explosion.
He says the crash happened right near a childcare centre.
"I hope they were evacuated in time," Mr Kennedy said.
Ms Thawley says the section of road has caused problems in the past.
"A lot of people came out into the street and were trying to make the traffic [slow down]," she said.
"There has been accidents down in that particular spot before ... it's a fairly tricky piece of the road at the bottom of the hill there."
