Drastic shifts in Cults' interpersonal dynamic weren't the only hurdles the band faced while making Static: Their NYC practice space flooded during Hurricane Sandy last year, destroying a considerable amount of (uninsured) gear and forcing the pair to, as Oblivion puts it, "recreate our live show from the ground up." Columbia didn't lend a hand in replacing the damaged equipment-- "they could care less," Follin offers curtly-- but Cults are nonetheless happy with their relations with the label, even when it's clear which of its artists really rule the roost. "We had a meeting at Columbia that was wrapping up, and people were like, 'Beyoncé's coming in.' I got so excited," Oblivion recalls, laughing. "I was like, 'Oh my God, I'm gonna meet Beyoncé.' They were like, 'No, that means you have to leave.'"
