I'm kinda disappointed with their ballads this time, the only one that I like among the ballads on the album is All I Need but compared to the other ballads from the previous albums especially Restless from Enter is miles apart, but The Cross is epic it surely beat The Howling and it's probably my top 3 fav. WT songs only behind The Promise and Restless, they should have replace Final Destination with Blue Eyes, FD sounds more like a filler or a generic hard rock track while Blue Eyes is really mesmerizing and I was expecting a more epic sound from TTBTR but didn't came tru but her vocals on that song is awesome, other than that it's a great album but ME is still their best.
It is strange to read 'a European Evanescence' because their concept and sound is European and getting moreso. They were Americanish earlier on with their nu-metal influence but they've been progressively losing that.
As for the Nightwish reference hmmm.... I was a big fan of theirs but not Within Temptation - I don't the similarity between them other then that they were in the same genre - I know that sounds contradictory but you get bands in the same genre because they may have a similar setup and because overall they put out music that uses an overall similar style but different bands in the same genre can really use the styles individually and innovate. I can think of other bands that Within Temptation remind me of but not Nightwish - maybe those who are/were fans of both can answer that better.
^ok, i havent heard all their new material, but that i´ve heard, it´s more "american" sound to mee, IMO...and the reverse for evanescence now, more "european-goth" -style, which makes eva. and WT closer than ever...but this was just for explaining my point, i admit that i have to listen to their new material in full....my statement was just based on my immediate reaction to the new material i´ve heard.
...but i guess our opinions differ on the issue, so be it...
