Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani to Appear on Idol
Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani to Appear on Idol
FRIDAY FEBRUARY 23, 2007 08:40 AM EST
By Pete Norman
American Idol will have more star power than ever this season: Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani are among the guest stars slated to appear.
On Thursday's elimination show, the full lineup was announced: In addition to Lopez and Stefani, Jon Bon Jovi, Martina McBride, Diana Ross, Barry Gibb and '60s stars Lulu and Peter Noone from Herman's Hermits (for a British Invasion night) will all guest on the FOX hit.
Access Hollywood had previously reported that Lopez was expected to perform on April 11 and Stefani was likely to appear on March 28.
Thursday's episode also saw the return of season-three winner Fantasia (who joins The Color Purple on Broadway on April 10) and the elimination of the first four semifinalists.
Paul Kim, whose gimmick was singing in bare feet, was first to get the boot, followed by Amy Krebs, criticized by Simon for being unmemorable. Nicole Tranquillo, who was perhaps overambitious in singing a Chaka Khan song, was the third singer axed, followed by Rudy Cardenas, who opened Tuesday's show with an erratic rendition of "Free Ride."

How did J.Lo get on American Idol?
Christina needs to get her tail on there and perform CandyMan!!! I hope that will happen. It would do wonders for the song's success.

LOL. Gwen singing live on American Idol..... That will suck so much. She's always been a horrid live performer, specifically in the vocal department. Can't wait to watch it. It should be a nice laugh.

^At least Shakira won't be by the show to rape a nation wide audience with the very overplayed and overrated Hips Don't Lie... again. Unlike that bitch, Gwen actually knows when enough is enough for promoting a single.
But being the biggest show on Television right now, couldn't they have gotten some music stars that are a little bigger? Gwen, J Lo, Jon Bon Jovi, and Tony Bennett are all excellent choices (a lot better then last year's line up with Shakira, Manilow, & Rod Stewert.), but I think the producers should be fishing for more well-known/decorated artists. Then again, there maybe some suprises being kept under wraps...

LOL, you must be enormously slow. Shakira hardly promoted "Hips Don't Lie" at all. She never even stepped foot in Europe, Latin America, or Asia to promote the song AND STILL had the biggest song of the year worldwide. Christina Aguilera went to the UK for a week or so, making rounds to promote her lead single and STILL couldn't manage to take the top spot on the singles chart from Shakira, who did NO promo in the UK (and was completely blacklisted by the top station). It's not her fault radio stations continued playing a song that she stopped promoting 8 MONTHS AGO and that people continued willingly purchasing the single.
And yes, Shakira's a "bitch". That's why in the last 2 months she set up 2 fundraising drives through the Hard Rock Cafe and SEAT (a European car company) to raise money for her foundation in Colombia, running since 1997 (created months after her initial success). And then a couple months back she just organized the " The Largest Cultural Solidarity Movement in the History of Latin America" (source: Business Wire), her own version of a Latin Live 8 of musicians who will perform a series of concerts to raise money to fight poverty in Latin America. But, like, big deal. It's only the biggest idea EVER proposed for Latin America, conceived by Shakira. What a "bitch" . She should be like partying with Lindsay Lohan instead of taking time out for good causes. Horrible person .
And then when she's not doing enormously selfish and "bitch[y]" things like finding ways to fight poverty in an entire continent ( ), she's like writing music and lyrics and producing it, to Grammy ( Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album "F.O. Vol. 1" and Best Latin Pop Album "MTV Unplugged") and Latin Grammy (some 7 awards including Album of the Year for "F.O. Vol. 1", Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Album) winning acclaim.
Currently she's touring in a 100 show worldwide tour, meaning that promotion is absolutely impossible for her.
Clearly, Travis, you're a fool. Good day, mate. Next time, when you're finding someone to call a "bitch" you should learn up on them a bit to save yourself from looking like a fool. Shakira's a darling. Anyone with half a brain knows that.

Haha, I knew you were going to be a Shakira Stan, misinterpretet my post, make yourself look like an OCD moron once again, make some irrelevent half-baked arguments regarding her to this topic + Gwen Stefani, not realize American Idol is set in the UNITED STATES (We're not talking elsewhere in the world, we're talking about where the show is at), and potentially type an essay with the " " Smiley.
Yes, Shakira has been a good artist before + a little after Hips Don't Lie, but really now:
You can stop now. Mig is a better Shakira fan then you.

Idiot. She didn't promote "Hips Don't Lie" that much in the U.S. either (no late night shows), just a few TV rounds, no publicity stunts or paparrazzi appearances. You're just a fool who wants to quell Shakira and her song for its rightful success by throwing stupid comments right and left as if they actually hold true ("bitch", lol, as if ). Homegirl didn't do that much to push the song, meaning it was a success on its own merits. Just because you're a fickle loser, it doesn't mean the song is overrated.
Gwen sucks live. She always has. Even her own fans know that. Deal with it.
Logical "stan" >>> stupid people (that means you).
And yes, the rolling eyes are very common when responding to dumb people. Learn from it.

*sigh* Do I really have to go into detail about this post vuelve made?...
Allright then...
*takes his sweet time, and even watches TV while making this post*
First off, I live in the US. You probably don't, which could show additional reasons why you appear to be digging a major social grave for yourself. HDL was promoted without Shakira even having to step foot on a late show, but it wasn't a song that was successful based on it's own "merits" alone. But besides that, promotion goes beyond just television appearances. ("DUH!") And you call yourself a logical stan...
"Quell?" That's a overly agressive yet poor word choice, and shows you are being miss dramatic. But since you've taken "Bitch" literally: I've never shown any intention of wanting Shakira to end. Her song? In a couple ways, yes...
Next, They're called OPINIONS. 100s, if not 1000s, if not millions of people have around the same viewpoint as I do. They're not meant to be taken as "true," unlike you just overtly mispercieved them as. - (This right here is an intentional worthless tact on your part that does not help your side of this very lame argument you ensued. And it shows despiration.) Learn from this aspect before continuing. People hate HDL and are very sick & tired hearing it, deal with that.
And just to bring down your OCD-lapse and to earth a little bit: You know Shakira has had her share of crappy performances like Gwen. Shakira isn't perfect either. But at least Gwen has been performing more then just one song lately here in the states.
Actually, in your case, the " " in hand with a few of your posts shows several characteristics on your side of the argument including rambunctiousness, unreasoned bitchiness, and being overly dramatic. (plus other details you just percieved yourself as, but certain other people reading this thread can probably pick those up.) Then the " s" you have scattered throughout your posts could be taken as various signs of dull sarcasm/humor and/or the level superficiality you posses.
And you call me the fickle loser?...Well then again, you're the one who was unstable enough to handle an opinion to the point where you posted a huge mostly irrelevant research essay. (That's not a sign of fandom, that's more a long the lines of being psychotic.)
Would you like to try again? Or would you like to stop being miss-reactive?

The rest of what you typed was "let's sound smart" fluff, which just makes you look foolish. Actually, I was born and raised in the USA (and I'm still living here), which unfortunately destroys that part of your argument. I saw the development of the song just like you did. I'm just not fickle enough to blast a song because I think it has too much success (which is what you're doing).
Yes, the song was successful on it's own "merits". It was created to be a happy, light-hearted catchy spring/summer song, and it was received in that way. That makes it a success on it's own merits, my friend. When she doesn't hugely promote the song or herself, yet the song becomes a radio and sales success, that means the song sold itself. It's called common sense; use it.
And Shakira is a far better live performer than Gwen. She has always been. Her recent tour received the same score as Madonna's tour ("A-") from Entertainment Weekly, and her tour features no extravagant settings or back up dancers meaning that the girl single handedly made the show. Blasting Shakira in response to my post about Gwen being a horrible live singer (which she is; No Doubt fans could tell you that any day), just makes you look like a fool.
Don't fluff up your argument. You're still a fool regardless of whether you can throw in some word play here and there.

No it was mostly a post you couldn't handle and take in. But that's OK, I understand you have OCD when it comes to Shakira. And again, you are not realizing what an opinion is.
Then you live in the US? I find that kind of hard to believe after you threw a negative stereotype about Americans in another thread of which includes yourself. (I believe in the B' Day release one...)

In a kind-of covert way, you just contradicted yourself. And you didn't really demonstrate the real meaning behind merits (look the word up), but it wouldn't have helped you anyways. Besides I only called the song overrated and overplayed, WHICH WAS AN OPINION. And you're always saying "It's called common sense, use it" (or something along those lines) in other threads. Why don't you practice what you preach?

I could care less who's the better performer at this point, but Shakira is not perfect as you once again percieved her to be.
And No, it shows that I have an opinion, which you have just now proved to others here that you cannot handle. And learn some new tricks/lines. [I just looked through some of your prior posts outside this thread and it wasn't very intellectual with a few of them. I saw some familiar statements. I wonder how many times a day you say/type some of these certain words or lines in your daily speech.]

Excuse me, you fluffed your arguments far more then I did. (See the unsupportive first research post you made) But I at least I stuck on topic, and showed where you are going wrong here in this argument.
Why don't you read what I posted and quit jumping on your own typical non-changing scapegoat statements before typing?
If anything else, I'm done with you. You are a waste of time, and now one of the worst members of this site. (As I have proven in a few different ways by just this thread alone.) I''ve had more logical arguments with 5th graders, and they actually admit or address when they are wrong.

I've just been accepted to one of the Top 20 schools in the United States. Trust me, bud, I know what "merits" mean. "Hips Don't Lie" was crafted as catchy and fun song. It succeeded. It was a radio hit on its own merits, meaning that people liked it for what it was (a fun catchy song) and either requested it or purchased it from iTunes (or illegally downloaded it).
It's funny you have trouble believing I'm from the U.S. and that I actually live here. You're not too bright. <--- Take this note every time you post something. It'll help you from making a fool of yourself.
I understand the concept of being subjective. Still, you're wrong. And for you to throw words like "bitch" around when you have no clue what you're saying, I just feel obliged to make an ass out of you.
You don't have to respond. You were fighting a losing battle from the start (attempting a comeback by insulting Shakira when I simply posted the truth: Gwen sucks live). A fool is easily revealed, and you, my friend, showed yourself pretty dang clearly.

As kind of expected, you didn't support anything, you just rambled on about intelligence (BTW, being accepted in to a top 20 school doesn't mean a whole lot and it does not have any factor on whether you know the meaning behind "merits"... and you accused me of fluffing...), purposely misconstrued a few of my statements (but that's okay, other people have a grip on what I've said), and you actually didn't make an ass of me (If so, I'm an ass for actually subjecting myself to an argument with you, which was done on my watch), I'm sorry, but you have made an ass mostly to your own self. I just threw the spotlight on. Then you wrapped up with a few lines, which I'm sure you think will make others believe that you were 100% right throughout this thread, but it actually just made you out to be one of this site's largest pompous morons. And guess what? You just supported my stance of the fact that you do not know what an opinion or being subjective is with the bolded part of this post. (Either that or you're just recklessly desperate and become captivated in a freakish manner to prove something major of yourself or your seen status, but either way, that was a sloppy move on your part.)
Now, unless you have something more (and make sure it is a SOMETHING and not a NOTHING), I'd like to see this post stay open. (Which is why I'm holding back a lot from you.) You've done enough vuelve. Then are you aware of the No Holds Barred thread? That's where frivolously evolved arguments go on this board, including most of what of you posted and directed towards me.

Being accepted to a Top 20 school actually does mean "a whole lot". When some 10,000+ people apply to a private school and only a few thousand are accepted, it means a whole lot. I could major in the exact same thing as you and, come job time, they'll take me over anything from Metropolitan State College Of Denver ( ). If I say I know what "merits" means, chances are that I actually do. Trust me, pal.
Me saying Gwen sucks live is an opinion that very well leans towards being a fact. She does. Watch her old No Doubt live performances, or pretty much any solo performances where she simply shouts and hardly gives any worthy vocal performance. It's not like a matter of taste where I'm out of my mind and saying Christina Aguilera can't sing; This is Gwen. When she sings live it's really easy to conclude whether she sucks or not, and more often than not, she sucks live.
As someone else said, Christina Aguilera and Beyonce would make for far better guests on American Idol. Hope you can handle that Travis, or would you like to throw the so-and-so is a "bitch" comments?

I'm going to write off the first two parts of this post, because it's pretty pathetic to continue anything more with you regarding those subjects ~ especially after I've already highlighted the flaws of your arguments several times now within just this thread, the seen fact that you contradicted yourself again, and I've made my side clear enough. The "who's attending the better school" argument is very cliched, as well as another despiration + fluffing dynamic on your side, nor did it have any weight in this argument in the first place. Even though it's not really part of any of this: I'm pretty happy where I'm at for the most part, and could go to a "higher" school if I decided or needed to. Besides, it's your choice to continue being a guy who claims to be in one of the finest educational facilities, yet can't handle or even just rest away from an internet thread with OPINIONS such as the ones I posted. (I could say something more, but I think it's time we both stopped.)
As for the 3rd part: I have nothing against those two female artists. I actually think they would be better then Gwen in a couple aspects. (I could say far more then another certain artist, but I'll spare this board.)
Are you done?
