Flattery is telling the other person precisely what he thinks about himself. --Dale Carnegie
Do people praise celebs that they "relate" to boost their own ego?
That's a hard question to answer.
I think, perhaps, it may work the other way around. As in, someone's ego may get a boost if a celebrity gets praise for the things that someone relates to about that celebrity.
I hope that makes sense to you. I don't know how to say it more simply.

Now that your putting it like that then probably. We all relate to celebrities because of different aspects and when we praise on one another our subconscious might actually praise yourself. But it also depends, does the celebrity you're praising have features that relate to you?

Nice thread
I was thinking the same way. Could be so, to answer your question.
I feel like it works both ways. You could genuinely like an artist, or you could just be kissing ass to (try) and get close to them. Or you can just say your honest opinion on them and not be trying to suck up to anyone.
It's definitely a factor, but I don't feel like it's a major one. There's people who do it to kiss ass, and others who say what they feel to express their honest opinion without expecting any benefits from it.
