That's not fair in my opinion, some artist put albums on pre-order 2 month before official release date and all sales, all 60 days of sales going in first week sales. How is that fair?

I don't really think it's fair, that's like selling the items for 67 days.

Only a minority uses preorders. It only adds like 20k to first week sales. Who cares.

It's fair because it isn't unheard of but it would be unfair only when the gerls start to (you know they will) compare first week sales of albums that have been on sale for over 80 days to albums that have been on sale for the regular 7.

It's just the same situation as "this single/album sold blahblahblah for being on sale for only 2 days!!!!!" - eh.

Pretty much everyone who pre-ordered an album without even hearing it would've bought it in its first week if it wasn't on pre-order anyway.

Preordering is nothing but putting in a reservation for something you would've bought when it's released anyway. It's a convenience.

No one is forcing these artists to NOT put their albums for pre-order for 2 months.

It's fair. The money doesn't get taken out of your account until release so you're technically buying it then. You can cancel the order if you want and it won't count as far as I'm aware.

I don't understand why anyone would preorder a digital album in the first place, honestly. If an artist can convince her fans to preorder a digital album months in advance before anyone hears it, then more power to them, they deserve those sales.

I don't see the problem with it. Most people that preorder the album don't buy it again anyway so it doesn't make much difference. They're just ordering it earlier.
