Finally, 2006 is coming to an end! It's time to look back and see what beautiful music this year brought to us.

My top 100 is compiled numerically, a combination of how long I liked a song (chart points) and how intensely I liked it (mp3 plays). A song is only eligible to make the year-end top 100 if it was on my weekly chart this year.

I thought it would be interesting to start with my top 10 played songs that never charted, but it turns out all 10 songs are by the same artist. I discovered this year what an awesome singer Tiziano Ferro is and his album Nessuno È Solo is one of the best I have ever heard. You can see I played it obsessively. I also got addicted to some of his older singles.

Ok, good to see most of the Ayumi Hamasaki charting low. ;p Also, Utada Hikaru's travesty of a song, "Boku Wa Kuma" going down low too. O.o Last year's #01, "We Belong Together" is now #41?!

Yeah, it was still on my chart at the start of the year so it was eligible to make the list. It can be worse though, "Nemo" was my #1 of 2004, my #3 of 2005, and it's in the top 10 of this year

Otso Otso better make Top5!!!!!

Japanese pop singer Ai Otsuka continued strongly in 2006, releasing a new album around new year's and several new singles throughout the year. "Frienger" is a fun pop rock song, the title being a portmanteau of friend and ranger; hence the Power Ranger theme. Though admittedly, her Power Rangers look very weird.




JoJo returned strongly this year with the amazing "Too Little Too Late". Her album is good too, although none of the songs really touch this song's greatness. I'm confident that she'll continue to grow as an artist and eventually release a great album that will be remembered for decades.




Machinae Supremacy are an awesome Swedish metal band, best known for incorporating sounds from old computer games into their music. However, they use many different instruments to give their music a unique flavor, and "Oki Kuma's Adventure" is perhaps the best example of how cool they can sound. The song is about a teddybear who sets out to save the world; you can't really go wrong with that.




One of the highest ranked album tracks on my list, "5:09am" is the perfect wake up song. It starts quietly, gently pulling its listener out of their sleep, before a rocking climax that blasts them right out of their bed. Great stuff.




Nelly Furtado released her best stuff this year, and for me it all started with this song, as I never really got into "Maneater". "Promiscuous" is so damn catchy, you can't help but love it. Timbaland once again demonstrated his talent for making brilliant pop songs, and I'm sure he will also lift Björk to a new level.

oh man! what an awesome chart! i don't know like half of the songs but it's nice to see masterpieces like Promise, Promiscuous, Frienger, Hips Don't Lie, Ring The Alarm etc.
