No. In England we don't need to buy any books ourselves for school. Or textbooks are free at least in my school they were. Therefore the government does not give us any money.

In Uni you have to pay for almost everything though.

Besides, the gov't has its hands in too many pots right now, with all the wars to fight, underhanded deals to maintain overseas, and wealthy to satisfy to really care about something as silly as making sure its citizens are well educated and free-thinking. Hell, the less they're educated the better consumers they'll be!

I get the smallest (and most common) amount of money once every year at High School (Year 11 to 13 here). Almost everything related to school from 1st to 13th grade is payed by taxes so we get it "for free"

I don't need to pay any of the books, my parents just need to pay the extra subject I have (Cambridge English), a few things such as school trips and I believe the teachers are paid by the government. I honestly don't know so I think it's the same as you since we're from the same country
