Harvey Mason Jr. and Damon Thomas' double head-nodding was very much evident recently at their Hollywood studio as they played Beyonce's "Listen" and other selections from the forthcoming "Dreamgirls" soundtrack. With this project, the new Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige single "Never Gonna Break My Faith" and collaborations with Mario, Chris Brown, Fantasia and "America Idol" finalist Katharine McPhee, 2007 is shaping up to be a breakout year for the Underdogs.

The American Idol season 5 runner-up has been largely tight-lipped about her upcoming album, but she's been in the studio recording since the American Idols Live tour ended in September. Rumor has it that super-producer Timbaland is working with Katharine. Does that mean an R&B-type release from the Idol album? We'll just have to wait and see

Hills' role is often to refine Timbaland's raw ideas, but they also write songs together. For example, Hills came up with the beat for "Promiscuous" and Timbaland created the hook. Lately, Hills has begun working on his own as a producer and songwriter with acts including Britney Spears, Diddy and Katharine McPhee. His most distinctive style is the spacey synth-rock sound he employed on Nelly Furtado track "Maneater" - which he also applied to a new song with Duran Duran and an upcoming solo track from the Pussycat Dolls' Nicole Scherzinger. "I'm just a musical guy", says Hills, who unlike many hip-hop producers has the chops to jam with live bands. "So I definitely want to venture into rock and stuff like that - where I can be free."

Believably.” The music begins. “This song is called ‘Open Toes,’ ” shouts Ferrera over the deafening beat. “It’s about hot shoes with open toes,” he yells. The only lyric I manage to make out goes “ ’Cuz I know that boys, they like these open toes.”

This is the real Tin Pan Alley side of the business. A new star gets designated by the label and then later, someone has to write the songs for her. In this case, Ferrera hopes to set up McPhee with Timbaland (perhaps the most lauded hip-hop producer of our time, who recently lent his talent to the new Justin Timberlake album), Babyface (who twice set the record for longest run at No. 1 on the Billboard singles chart), and Leslie. All three will end up working with McPhee; Leslie’s doing two songs. “The biggest thing to come out of that meeting,” Leslie tells me later, “is that apparently I’m now getting put on a level with those guys. That’s huge.” A producer like Timbaland can command up to $250,000 for a single track. “And if Timbaland can put himself on the Justin Timberlake record and the Nelly Furtado record, it seems like I could put myself on this record and raise my profile.”

Her album comes out in merely a month and we still have not heard her first single, or even know her album title?????? I love her and can't wait for this album and all, but why is she making this so top secret??! And why is she working with so many producers? Is that supposed to be a good thing?

Only a 1.10 clip leaked of Open Toes, and it's actually really good! I didn't even expect this type of sound from Katharine!

I hate to say this but I have an issue with all the clips leaked.

-"Open Toes" has a hot ass beat, which seems to have been produced by either Ryan Leslie or Danjahandz. The arrangement is pretty sweet and she also sounds really good on it but the lyrics are some of the worst I heard in a while.
-"Each Other" is a really nice love song with both great production and lyrics. The problem here is that it may come off as another WBT-wannabe.
-"Over It" is great in every department except for the fact that it is very similar to Jojo's "Too Little Too Late" & "Leave (Get Out)."

An issue I have with every one of these songs is that her voice is pretty big for them and I'd like for her voice to showcased more.

They changed the release date to this to January 30th.

A few industry experts within the fan base have stated multiple times that a January release to coincide with the debut of AI Season 6, would be the best possible marketing strategy. Kat's CD release, according to RCA, is being moved to January 30th in order to give it the proper release and marketing that it deserves! This means, not ONLY do we have more time to sell, sell, sell, but we also have the opportunity now to have a HUGE opening week of sales for Kat! So, let's enjoy the Holiday Season, keep spreading that McPheever, and look forward to a Very Katharine McNew Year!!!"
