You're working on Britney Spears' upcoming album – have you recorded the tracks yet?
Yeah I’ve been working with William Orbit on some tracks for her.
What are they sounding like?
It’s different. I’m a fan of his so it’s just amazing to be doing something exciting with him and he’s working on the tracks at the moment. I think the sessions are in a couple of weeks.
Britney’s last album was quite trance and dub step inspired – what’s her next one sounding like?
I wouldn’t do anything that dub steppy I wanted to keep it pop. I’m a big fan of pop music and that culture so I definitely want to keep that going but in my own kind of way and my own kind of style. I’m not trying to make any kind of record you would have heard before.
As a producer you want to be able to do that, keep it original. Do you get intimidated working with such massive stars as Britney?
No I don’t. I’ve been working with Lily Allen recently and sometimes I think ‘how will I get on with them?’ but it always works out. To be honest I don’t ever really take pictures with anyone or do any fan stuff so maybe that makes it easier. I’m quite easy to talk to so as a producer you want to be adaptable to know when to do what and change with everyone. I’m learning that more.
Now you're working with pretty much the biggest name in pop have any other massive US superstars requested you for their albums?
Yeah they have, I’ve got a couple down but I don’t want to name them. But I’ve also been working with James Arthur, I’ve done four songs with him for his album and he’s someone I’m really excited about. With or without X Factor I think he’ll definitely make the same album. He’s made songs with integrity and he’s a good writer. Also Tinie Tempah’s new album I’ve done a few songs on that. One of them’s with Paloma Faith. I’m really excited about that one.
You're working with US pop royalty now and Brits are currently taking over – why do you think there's been a resurgence of interest in UK music?
I think honestly because I think American music I think it started chasing it’s own tail and I think once they were innovators in the Timbaland and The Neptunes it feels like they’re just trying to make hit records and I think when something emerges people are ready for that. The public are ready for that I think for a bit of change and that’s why I think the Brits are doing well.
