Born This Way had the huge hype, infamous VMA meat announcement, the long documentaries of music videos, the extravagant performances, 99 cent first week discount, etc. and Teenage Dream only had Pop tunes, and at the end BTW sold 2.3 million (1.9 million without the discount) as opposed to TD's close-to 3 million.

Teenage Dream also had a re-release and a 3D movie, and it is still quite far from 3 million, but hey. I think ARTPOP will debut better but at the end of the day no one knows who will sell better without knowing about their overall sounds, singles, marketing etc.
