Years are getting better one after one. We have right now year number two thousand thirteen. A year full of variety and diversity in the playlist of general people. Music industry still changing to a new sound, less pop safe generic sound. With all of that said, let's gonna remember all of this year already passed, the first Mid. 2012 definetely opened the doors to new acts to be sucessful and it's a fact if you're an already known act and don't realese the proper material, you can flop, even being a big name.
The Return of Hip-Hop: 2013 Kings, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
The firstly mentionated 'one-hit wonder" Macklemore & Ryan Lewis started to explode from nowhere in late 2012. "Thrift Shop" featuring Wanz, the song of the year, made history week after week. Everybody knows and wants to sing this smash. First Hip-Hop smash in years, it's not a thing that happens all the time. Eminem was one of the few acts to bring Hip-Hop to the top of America. They were not done with just a smash. "Can't Hold Us" featuring Ray Dalton, also topped the U.S. for 5 weeks. Bringing a total of 11 weeks this years owned by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
The power of a historic cultural impact: Welcome Streaming
First, Thrift Shop. It was blocked for 5 weeks by a huge viral smash, the historic "Harlem Shake". Baueer created it giving Billboard a chance to add a new component: streaming, since then we can see the REAL most popular hits week after week. Even with the overshadow of radio, Harlem Shake was a sucessful sensation.
Pop stills ALIVE?
Yep, first number-one hit of 2013 was the pop Bruno song, "Locked Out Of Heaven". Let's remember how big were also: "When I Was Your Man", "Stay", "Sweet Nothing", "Scream & Shout", Just Give Me A Reason, and more.. I used the word "Alive" to relte the Krewella pop radio hit, a clear example that pop hits sound is not the same we listen to in past years.
The great and unexpected comeback of R&B
Marian got her first very decent hit since "Obsessed" with "#Beautiful" featuring Miguel. The huge and expected to be a classic "Blurredines" which it's currently at #1 on its 6th week is likely become the song of the year and even the decade, superaring Rihanm's 2011 classic "We Found Love" featuring Calvin Harris. Ariana Grande also realese a surprise hit, "The Way" featuring Mac Miller.
Oh and don't forget about another King of this year, Justin Timberlake and the album of the year "The 20/20 Experiece".
Country-Pop Rap Sucess
"Cruise" by Florida Georgia Line was born to be a big hit, but we didn't expect it to be one of the most sucessful songs on the decade. With 5 million of copies sold and still being in Top 10 on iTunes, the remix with Nelly (that helped a lot too) has been a huge, hugee sucess
Other sucessful acts
The alternative huge crossover smashes "Ho Hey" by The Lumineers and "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons.
Disney girls are back: Miley Cyrus' 2nd biggest hit in her career "We Can't Stop", Selena's most sucessful hit "Come & Get It" and Demi's almost signature hit "Heart Attack"
Icona Pop with "I Love It" featuring Charli XCX and many more..
