JT scores first Adult Top 40 No. 1 with “Mirrors”
Justin Timberlake Scores First Adult Top 40 No. 1
Justin Timberlake crowns Adult Top 40 for the first time, as “Mirrors” rises 2-1. He concurrently scales Mainstream Top 40 and Rhythmic with two other tracks.
Justin Timberlake scores his first No. 1 on Billboard’s Nielsen BDS-based Adult Top 40 chart, as “Mirrors” (RCA) rises 2-1. He previously reached the top 10 for the first time with prior single “Suit & Tie” (featuring Jay-Z), which peaked at No. 8 in April. (With‘N Sync, he’d climbed as high as No. 19 with “Bye Bye Bye” in 2000.) “Mirrors” concurrently climbs 12-10 on Adult Contemporary, granting Timberlake a top 10 in his first visit to the survey as a soloist. “Mirrors” spent three weeks atop Mainstream Top 40 last month, marking his sixth No. 1 at the format; he and Bruno Mars share the record for the most Mainstream Top 40 leaders among solo males in the tally’s 20-year history. “Suit” and “Mirrors,” both from Timberlake’s album The 20/20 Experience, also topped Rhythmic for two weeks apiece. Timberlake, meanwhile, scales Mainstream Top 40 and Rhythmic with two new tracks. In its second week, Jay-Z’s “Holy Grail” (Roc Nation), which features Timberlake, pushes 32-31 on the former ranking and 31-22 as the Greatest Gainer (up 715 plays) on the latter list. Simultaneously, Timberlake’s “Take Back the Night” (RCA) debuts on Mainstream Top 40 at No. 30 and Rhythmic at No. 33. The song introduces the second installment of The 20/20 Experience, due Sept. 30. The first edition is the year’s top-selling album (2.1 million), according to Nielsen SoundScan.
