Well, as the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin trial nears a conclusion, it looks like a certain brother of a certain dog-fighting guru has decided to make his opinion known on both the subject of Zimmerman's trial...and his brother's trial.

Why isn't a dog's life worth more than a humans?

Though the title of the thread is, admittedly, meant for a broader topic that I would love to see get talked about here (should the lives of animals/pets and the lives of humans be treated equally?), the main thing I got from Marcus Vick's tweets is that he is basically trying to take the attention away from Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman and move it onto himself and his brother Michael. What Marcus is saying reeks of "attention *****".

More importantly, Marcus Vick REALLY shouldn't be bringing up Michael's dog fighting history at a time when his brother is trying to find a job, even if he's trying to defend him. It's horrible timing on the part of Marcus Vick to make these kinds of comments. Whether he's right or wrong, Marcus Vick sure doesn't have a good sense of awareness and timing.

Some are still stuck on that dog fighting crap and this was years ago. This was certainly bad timing and would have been best left unsaid.

People have gotten outraged a great deal over dogs when there are plenty of problems humans face that doesn't get half the outrage or coverage. He makes a good point.

But why does a dogs life not matter as much as a humans? A life is a life no matter what animal it belongs to

...it isn't really outlandish to think that there are some white people really value the lives of dogs over those of black people, as some still view the latter as sub-human.

For those who don't get it, Marcus is saying that if Zimmerman is acquitted it will be highly ironic because his brother went to jail, not for killing a human, but for being cruel to dogs. It's kind of an apples and oranges comparison because for starters, Zimmerman is in Florida, not Virginia and they have different laws there. I don't know if we even have "Stand Your Ground" laws in VA, and Zimmerman didn't think he did anything illegal. Meanwhile Vick knew that the dog fighting ring wasn't legal. As far as I'm concerned Vick paid his debt to society, so all you haters mad that he got to resume his career after he got out of prison can seethe.

I read this morning that the jury can convict Zimmerman on manslaughter and not murder 2. That may be a blessing in disguise. We've all heard about cases where the prosecution wanted a murder conviction or nothing at all, and the jury felt that the prosecution didn't prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt, so the perp walked. Maybe if the jury doesn't believe Zimmerman is guilty of murder, they can at least get him on manslaughter, so he'll do jail time.

Why is one animal worth more than the other? What about the cows, chickens and pigs that get slaughtered everyday? I just find it funny that people don't complain about those animals, but when it comes to a dog people want to unite.
