Why are YOU and the rest of the world the dumbest people in the world?
You wanna know why? Because you let artists like India.Arie, P!nk, Janet, Kelis, Outkast, Monica, Toni Braxton, Robin Thicke, Lupe Fiasco, Christina Aguilera, and many OTHER 'known' artists that try their best to keep REAL music alive FLOP. Why is it that you, the 'fans' praise these artists, create sigs, defend their very being on the net forums, and various OTHER activities, but yet when it comes to the numbers, they fall down the charts like a sack of bricks? Yeah, you're poor, can't afford 10 bucks when I CD comes out. Yeah, you're not working, so you just download. Yeah, you've known about this CD 6 months in advanced, loved the first single and heard all the promo on radio and TV, but you're still clickin' off MegaUpload and SendSpace and RapidShare and YouSendIt and RapidUpload and all those third-party European download sites. Why is it that our universal language, conveniently packaged and sometimes lightly or heavily seasoned (marketed) continually overlooked when it comes in a form slightly unknown to us? Why is it that artists that mention their inspirations praised at first, but in an attempt to acquire and keep those praised sounds alive in this millenium and era or a move to introduce the world to a newer sound they feel comfortable introducing, overlooked, ridiculed, surpassed, blindsighted, and kept on the shelve?. Why is it songs like "Chicken Noodle Soup", "Laffy Taffy", and "Chain Hang Low", songs with pre-pubecent styled lyrics smashes on the charts but "Save Room", "Who Knew", and "Lost Without U" stay far from the radio radar? Is it because these pop, hip-hop and R&B-type artists are supposed to be psychologically forced into creating the same continual sound LP after LP? Is it because we're too lazy to walk to the nearest Meijer, Circuit City, or Best Buy to purchase these aural addictions? Is it because we're influenced and review-filled before we lay our hands upon the products ourselves? Is it because we refuse to embrace our favorite artists paying homage to their idols or our favorite artists trying a new sound from that which may already be apparently old and used by newer artists? The answers are jumbled and forever will be, but one thing is for sure: Music is THE universal language and if you're missing the 'conversation' by choice, you're dumb.

A lot of it is the the pre-teens/young teens fault for the success of songs like Laffy Taffy. Just look at the comments in itunes for "Chain Hang Low", most of those comments are from 13 year olds probably. Then you have to blame the radio stations for playing the garbage, if they cared they would just flat out refuse to play it.

I buy albums. I bought 23 this year that were released from Dec 05 to now or broke out during the time period. The only recently released albums I downloaded this year, that I haven't bought, are B'Day, FS/LS, and that retarded Cassie album.
Out of that list; I bought Janet, Kelis, Outkast, Monica, Toni Braxton, Lupe Fiasco, and Christina Aguilera. I also plan on buying Robin Thicke.

I'm the lazy type too since I never have really any money to buy cds...but you're so right on what you said. Songs like Chicken Noodle Soup, Chain Hang Low and Laffy Taffy become big hits, but the songs you mentioned that are under the radar....I agree with your statement. I also like to add Sexyback to the discussion of big undeserved hits with CHL, CNS and LT. I'm not adding Deja Vu since it didn't do that well.
And another thing...talented artists like Joanna, Natalie, Paula Deanda, Anna Nalick, Jamelia, Girls Aloud, Sugababes, etc. never get noticed here yet we have to always deal with the same old junky hip-hop and r&b and cheesy pop tunes over and over.

I buy one or two CDs a year. I don't buy CDs that
- have filler tracks
- get old after 3 months
- I can't get for a reasonable price
so my choices are limited.

I buy CDs all the time. I had over 300 until they were stolen by some scumbag St. John's student. This school is really ridiculous when it comes to the thuggish ****s they accept.

I buy cds every week. So this does not involve me. I bought probably 25 to 40 cds just this year. I wouldn't be surprised if that number is higher.

I've bought Back To Basics, Sam's Town, and Shine On (Jet).
They're extra special. Only CD I've downloaded was Beyonce's. And it wasn't worth purchasing.

I do buy albums, I only download the ones that are never released in my country (and considering the kind of music I like and the kind of music most mexicans like, I basically download a lot of albums). I would buy a lot more albums if record labels bothered releasing them in my country.

I only buy cd's to artist I can appreciate, but I don't download albums, maybe just a couple of songs. However the albums that I download illegally and bought was Breaking Benjamin's Phobia, Evanescence's The Open Door. Though there's also albums I bought from iTunes and also bought the actual cd, Like Within Temptation's Mother Earth, Lacuna Coil's Comalies and Unleashed Memories, Nightwish, Once, Evanescence The Open Door.

Nice topic, btw.
