BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- After flying into the record books in its opening, Warner Bros. Pictures' and Legendary Pictures' "Man of Steel" continues to soar at the box office. Only after three weeks it crossed the $500 million mark and has become the 2nd highest grossing movie the year behind Iron Man 3. This is excellent and WB is obviously very pleased.

Hopefully with that kind of gross they can actually afford to hire competent scenario writers.

Goyer worked the stories for all 3 of the Dark Knight films.
I guess if they want people to stop btching they should get Nolan's brother to help with the script.

I still blame it on Snyder. The amount of action compared to storytelling was just ridiculous.
And I suppose they're all at fault for that ending that shouldn't have happened.

If WB were smart (and we know they rarely are), they'd get the Nolan brothers and Paul Dini to write the script, Bruce Timm for concept art, and get Matthew Vaughn to direct.

I hope that's sarcasm. Lets compare:
Spider-Man - $821 M
Iron Man - $585 M
Thor- $449 M
Superman Returns - $391 M
Batman Begins - $374 M
Wolverine - $373 M
Captain America - $368 M
The Incredible Hulk - $263
Even though there is slight inflation involved, Man of Steel has put up some huge numbers especially considering the competition and having to walk out of Superman Returns shadow. Also the movie is not nearly done making money it still has many markets to open in and its only been out for 3 weeks.

Great Choice. Snyder is really incompetent in any kind of storytelling

No, it's not, actually. This is likely going to be film one of a series franchise. Think "Iron Man" and the subsequent two films that grossed more and more money with each sequel. It's very impressive.

No doubt that movie was huge, but Man of Steel is expected to walk away with over $650 million (the minimum) most likely a little over 700 million according to box office analyst this week. If their projections are correct it will overtake Fast & Furious which it already has surpassed domestically.
By the end of 2013 I personally think it will walk away as the 4th biggest movie of the year behind The Hobbit, The Hunger Games, and Iron Man 3.

Glad its doing so well and despite its faults, as a massive Superman fan i was very pleased. I would really love if Johnathan Nolan came on and helped write the sequel's script. Goyer is a good ideas man but not the best screenwriter. Snyder is a visual mastermind but they really need to make the sequel more intimate and character driven while still having the spectacle of a Superman film. It's all about balance. For example, Superman Returns is decent i guess, but it went too intimate and didn't give audience's the spectacle they expect out of superhero films.
I'm hoping STEEL 2 focus more on Lois and Clark, the world's perception of this alien being, and of course Luthor. Amy is probably my favorite Lois now next to Erica from Smallville. They made Amy's Lois feisty and a bad bitch but also gave her more tender moments where she wasn't so hard-nosed.
