Kanye considers releasing 'Yeezus 2' after recent success
Quote:
Kanye West may be pre-occupied embracing fatherhood with daughter North at the moment, but the rapper is apparently considering releasing a second 'Yeezus' album according to iconic producer Rick Rubin, who says that there is plenty of material left over.
The 'Black Skinhead' hitmaker is currently revelling in the success of the first 'Yeezus' installment which topped the charts in the UK and sold more than 300,000 copies in the US, making it to number one on the Billboard countdown with very little promotion.
With the album receiving such positive response it's understandable that Kanye would like to emulate its success, and Rubin says it's a strong possibility.
When asked by The Daily Beast if there will be a follow-up, Rubin replied: “Might be. Initially, he thought there were going to be 16 songs on the album.
“But that first day, before he even asked me to work on it, I said, 'Maybe you should make it more concise. Maybe this is two albums. Maybe this is just the first half.' That was one of the first breakthroughs. Kanye was like, 'That's what I came here today to hear, it could be ten songs.'”
Rubin, who has worked with some of the biggest names in music's history such as the Beastie Boys and Bruce Springsteen, was brought in to work on the album just a few weeks before it had to be sent in to the record label, and it sounds as though it was touch-and-go.
“I thought I was going to hear a finished album, but actually we listened to probably three and a half hours of works in progress. Kind of meandering, unfocused, usually without his vocals,” Rubin said.
“I assumed that the album was scheduled to come out next year. So I said, 'When are you thinking of finishing up?' And he said, 'It's coming out in five weeks'. Like completely confident and fine. There was so much material we could really pick which direction it was going to go. The idea of making it edgy and minimal and hard was Kanye's.”
He added: “Three days before Kanye had to turn the record in he tells us, 'I'm going to Milan tonight'. There are probably five songs that still need vocals at this point. Two still need words.”
