If you had a stable income, and your partner was a millionaire, and you were about to get married but they wanted you to sign a prenup (ensuring if anything happened, you would not get an ounce of their fortune)... would this effect your decision to get married? Or would you still proceed and get married?

And would it be different if it was the other way around and YOU were the millionaire one and your partner was the one with the average income? Would you then want a prenup?

I'd get one if I was rich and they were poor, but if they had all the money and I had none I'd demand no prenup

I'd probably feel a little hurt at first but I'd be understanding. I know that if I were rich marrying a middle class person, I'd also want a prenup.

I don't believe in them if the people truly love and trust each other to be fair in the event that the relationship ends. If I were in a position in which I was wealthy and wanted to marry someone with less money, I would never ask them to sign a prenup. I would only ever marry someone I loved completely and honestly, and who I trusted. If I was in the opposite situation and I was asked, I would probably at least suspend the engagement until I felt that the person trusted me enough to know I wouldn't take advantage of them.

It saves a lot of heartache and someone taking earnings they didn't earn. Most don't have amicable divorces.

Lack of trust my ass. It's about protecting assets. If your intentions are good and you're not just marrying for the money then you'll have no problem signing one.

I think they're smart. Love is very uncertain, in love today, gone tomorrow. You can feel that you love someone with all your heart now, that does not mean you will be with them forever or always feel that way. That sounds so unromantic, but the idea that you'll marry the one you'll always love and you'll never have problems that may lead to divorce is unrealistic. If I married someone with more money then me I would understand if they asked. If I ever ended up leaving the relationship I wouldn't want to take all their money and leave them with nothing, that's so tacky. Love someone but protect yourself at the same time.

It might be unrealistic, but it's really not impossible. More so than that, it's a question of basic human decency; what normal and respectful person would try to take an unnecessary amount of money simply out of spite for a former lover? It think it's unfortunate that the concept of a prenup even has to exist, honestly, humanity is such a collective asshole sometimes.

Not everyone is a normal and respectful person and most people aren't. Humans are emotional creatures, expecting them to be perfect and nice and do the right thing all the time just isn't going to work out. And people change, a person may be one way when you marry them but change drastically throughout the course of the marriage and by the time you get to divorce, they're like a completely different person. Rely on logic, not emotions.

Therein lies the problem; perhaps it would be better if more people had a sense of the damage they can and do cause others? Regardless, I still personally wouldn't get a prenup. I realize that perhaps it's a good safety net for some people; I'll concede that at least. I just don't think it's something for me.

Well, I ain't no punk, so it's something that I need to have.

I would ask for prenup because it would test your significant other if he or she is just with you for your money. If they don't want a prenup then I got my answer.
