And this was the start of her ClearChannel ban as well (like Madonna's now, and the Britney loons like me had a petition too). I mean, she wasn't the first pop act to use the Neptunes, but she was the first or one of the very FIRST pop females to use the Neptunes and the song is stellar. Had it been released in 2004 or 2005 or 2006, this song would have been huge. But alas, it wasn't until "Toxic" or even "Me Against The Music" where radio started accepting her again.
In my opinion, "I'm A Slave 4 U" gave way to all the "Hollaback Girl"'s, "Promiscuous"'s and "Hips Don't Lie"'s out now and should have been a much HUGER hit in America and Worldwide as well.
Plus it's my favorite song she's ever done, PERIOD. So that adds to the momentum too

I kinda agree. If that was released now, that **** would've blown up, especially because of I-Tunes.

It was definitely ahead of its time. Plus Clear Channell ban. And the song still managed to be Top 30 on Billboard. Imagine what it could have been without all that.

First its obvious Xtian didn't write this....
second... I don't think Slave 4 u was the inspiration for Hips don't lie, WTH? nothing similar, music is really different to the other two.
third, Slave 4 u is hot and yes maybe if she released it right now it would be big....but then she wouldn't be where she is right now if she didn't release that track back then...so its all destiny crap going on.

Being the Britney freak I am, I'm almost obligated to love it. I do, and the video is one of the hottest ever (hm, I could live without the guy licking her face at the "orgy", LMAO, but still!), but thinking that the song was the one responsible for the huge hits stated at the review is almost delusional, even for a crazed fan like me.

I always wondered why that song didn't do better? It had huge hype and all...really deserved too.

Toxic is the best Britney song IMO. Despite the fact that it didn't blow up that does not take away any of Britney's accomplishments. Not many artists sold two diamond albums. Can't wait for her comeback.

Clear Channel controls like 85% of the Pop radio stations in the US. They also sponsor tours, and Britney was said to close a deal with them to sponsor the Dream Within A Dream Tour. But Pepsi got in the way, Britney became their face worldwide and obviously Pepsi sponsored the DWADT. Clear Channel didn't like that, and all Britney singles from "Britney" flopped on US radio. Worldwide, though, they did good. Overprotected, for example, was #1 in the Latin America compiled chart for 16 weeks.
Btw, if I'm not wrong, Clear Channel sponsored the Onyx Hotel Tour or had some kind of deal with Britney dring the ITZ era. Well, look what happened to her singles on radio.

Oh really? I can't tell if you are entitled to speak the truth here, but if it is true...it would explain a lot!

Everybody knows about Britney (or her management, it doesn't matter) choosing Pepsi over Clear Channel for her DWAT - it sucked that her singles did bad on radio, but if I was her I'd also prefer the money she gained from Pepsi, too; You can make a research about Overprotected being #1 in Latin America for 16 weeks; Clear Channel sponsored the Onyx Hotel Tour, that's just a fact. I don't have reasons to lie about anything like that. :-/
