But I would prefer to find the one in person.
Is going on a dating site for love a sign of desperation because you can't find love in the real world?

What specifically are you asking? Because it seems like you're asking about two separate things. The title asks about
dating sites, yet most of the OP seems to refer more to people who
online date, and that's something entirely different.
Nowdays I don't think there's as much of a stigma about dating sites. Nowadays everything we do seems to revolve around social networks, so if using dating sites to meet new people is an option then I don't see why there's anything wrong with that. It gives you the chance to meet and interact with people who you normally might not get the chance to meet.
Online dating is different though, like the people who appear on Catfish, the kinds of people who tend not to meet in real life and have a "real" relationship. I can understand why there's still a stigma regarding that kind of thing, and to be honest it isn't something I'd ever do because I feel like a real relationship is one where you have physical contact with that person. You can only get to know someone to a certain extent on the internet/phone/texting or whatever,
That's just my opinion.
