What’s happened to Cher? She’s been out of the limelight for years! — Barb, Newton, N.J.
No, she’s been out of the limelight since April of 2005, when she concluded her three-year, 325-date “Living Proof Farewell Tour,” which grossed $250 million-plus and played to more than three million people.
However, the
60-year-old superstar will be back in the center of attention next month, when she’s auctioning off some 700 items — including Bob Mackie-designed costumes, a 2003 H2 Hummer, furniture, artwork, jewelry (including some pieces she made herself) and a terra-cotta figurine of Jesus Christ from the 16th century — so she can redecorate her Malibu home.
The auction is expected to bring in more than $1 million, according to Sotheby’s, one of two firms administering it, and a chunk of the proceeds will go to her charity foundation.
She has been recording, and the expectation is she’ll have an album out under her current Warner Bros. Records deal in 2007. The following year, she’s expected to have her own stage show at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.
